Bottle. Nut brown with a thin head. A little wood in the aroma. Flavour is very dry, a little smoke and ash on a thin base. Light body, lacks substance.

Bottle @ Cockney pub. Nice head with good duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are roast malt, licorice hops and semi high carbonation.

Med brown and a bit too foamy, again the phenolic yeasty house aroma. Kind of ashtray character, thin and nothing really that I might want in a stout. Have to be harsh here because I really didnβt find anything I liked.

330ml Bottle (number 714): shared between four at our first ever Shrewsbury beer swap on 27th Jan 2014 (it was called Black Cock in those days). Cheers Luc. Pours the usual Stout black with a light tan head. Mild smokiness to the over roasted malts, some chocolate hints in there too. The taste followed the smells, an old chocolate bar left in peat for a while: sounds bad, but it was fine and Iβd have liked a little more to try given the chance. I however expected more from these guys to be honest, plenty of hype but lacked substance: this was almost a bog standard Stout with nothing to really make it stand out from the crowd. It didnβt have a deep body depth either for a 5% ABV Stout, could have been so much better in my eyes.

330ml bottle courtesy of Luc at the inaugural Shrewsbury Bottle Share Jan 14. Pours lively and particularly dark, with a smoked, charred wood character and an earthy forest floor dryness. Perhaps a bit thin for a stout but itβs an interesting taste and a nice introduction to this brewer.

Bottle from Mr Lawrence. It pours clear deep brown with a thick beige head. The nose is pine, toast, cocoa, caramel and a touch. The taste is earthy, toast, watery, wood and Instant coffee with a very dry finish. Light-medium body and moderate carbonation. More like a brown ale than a stout. Dominant instant coffee. A bit thin. So-so.

Bottle. Reddish black beer with a strong head. The aroma is quite herbal with a roasted edge, and the flavour is bitter and roasted with a strange herbal finish. Overall pretty disappointing beer, the herbal nature makes it less palatable, ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not black but very dark in the Auburn colour range. It has s light smoked aroma with some sweetness apparent, not high on flavour despite a nice mild texture.

33cl bottle thanks to unstablefable. Apparently from the Baxters Soup factory next to Forres. Appearance - cloudy dark brown. Decent head. Nose - sultanas and flowers, perhaps mountain herbs, actually. Taste - coffee beans, chocolate, maybe barrabrith bread. Palate - medium bodied creamy texture and a dry finish. Overall - intriguing aromas and tastes but not quite balanced.
