Cask at the Hope Tap, Reading. Gold with a thick white head and a moderate prickly fizz. Macro lagery taste up front, and then rose (or some flower, anyway!) fondant. There’s a bit of raspberry leaf in the aftertaste and some sherbert. Pretty much does what it says on the tin; not sure I like it, but it could have been an awful lot worse. Quite like the balance of the added flavours actually; they’re not too overwhelming. It’s just a shame they’ve been added to a poor base beer- that hint of macro lager keeps resurfacing.

Cask at the Willow Walk, JDW - London. Pours clear, yellow-gold with a frothy white head. Fresh raspberry on the nose with secondary pale and lightly doughy malts. Light sweet flavor with crisp pale malts, engaging raspberry, light berry puree, some seedy and rindy bitterness. Light bodied with fine carbonation; well conditioned. Nicely balanced to finish with restrained raspberry sweetness and good offsetting bitterness. Quite aolid overall, really. One of the best surprises of the festival.
