Bottle. Waitrose. Was wondering if Kernel would send different hopped beers out and it appears they are. So that’s good. Nearly black. Stunning tan Kernel swede. Nobody does it better. Lots of roasty ashy notes. Some light roasted coffee bean. Grapefruit and orange hoppage. Slick and full but easy drinking throughout. Roasty zesty finish. Class.

Black with a firm creamy tan head. Bold dark roasted notes, burnt malt, dark chocolate, citrus, grapefruit, a hint of pine, earthy. Medium bodied. Dry AF. This is a beauty. It’s like a black IPA if black IPAs were good (and properly balanced).

Bottle. Color: Black, light brown head. Aroma: Roasted malt, hoppy. Taste: Dark roasted malt, some coffee notes, cocoa, floral hop. Light sweetness, over moderate bitterness. Spicy hints. Dry mouthfeel. Just over medium body, just below average carbonation. Another great The Kernel beer.

(Draught at Kernel Taproom Spa Road, London, 23 Nov 2024) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of chocolate, black coffee and citrus. Malty, roasted taste with black coffee, dark chocolate, pine needles, grapefruit, a touch of mint and a generous citric/piney bitterness. Medium body, dry. Solid and well made porter, with a generous hop profile. Very nice.

Keg at the brewery taproom - Bermondsey. Pours black-brown with a creamy, khaki topping. Light to medium sweet flavour with dry toasted malts, earth, burnt sugars, dried pine, a little cocoa. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Dry finish, more toasted pine, burnt toast, earthy hops, slight minerality, bitter cocoa. Nice stuff on the whole.

330ml bottle. Jet black colour with minimally late awakening, huge, thick, creamy, moderately to mostly lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Roasty and chocolately, minimally biscuity, dark malty and mildly grassy, minimally fruity, hoppy aroma, notes of dark chocolate, Belgian chocolate, hints of chocolate cookies, dry cocoa, coffee grounds, coffee beans, a weak touch of tropical fruit-flavoured chocolate. Taste is roasty and chocolately, dark malty, mildly bitter, minimally grassy and fruity hoppy, notes of dark chocolate, dry cocoa, coffee, some roasty bitterness, a weak, tropical fruity touch, mineral and minimally ashy overtones. Slightly creamy, watery texture, smooth and soft, simultaneously slightly dry palate, medium to fine, dense, creamy, mildly prickly carbonation. Well crafted, homogeneous, harmonious, seemingly simple at the surface, very sophisticated in detail - The Kernel again makes things look simple but oh soooo good - excellent stuff.
