It’s back to the 19th Century for inspiration for our traditional Augsburger Festbier. The Augsburg mash involves starting at cold temperature with numerous boil phases over 12 hours to develop a wort that is a beautiful deep amber, rich and complex. Fuggles hops, followed by a long gentle low temp fermentation has created a beer that is packed with body and flavour not typically found in modern lagers. Truly a festival celebration to be savoured.

Can at home picked up from CW online i think. A clear deep orange coloured pour with a decent off white froth that fades. Aroma is semi sweet, autumnal notes, grass, hint of caramel, fresh grassy nobel hops, spicy, biscuit. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, rustic malts, hint of toffee, biscuit, melanoidin, firm grassy bitterness Palate is semi sweet, moderate. Really well done, goes down easy.

Can. Beer Stop Dronfield. Attractive looking, hazed orange copper colour. Fine just off white and is lasting and lacing. Nose has toffee malt. Hedgerow fruit. Spicy leaf. Taste is sweet and lightly spicy, with a firm hop bitterness. Smooth and relatively full bodied. Fine natural feeling carbonation. Lingering bitter finish. Tasty.

Can from HoTM. It pours ever so slightly hazy orange with a a fluffy white head. The aroma is earthy, nutty, woody, biscuit, rivita, dried grass, spice and dull sweetness. The taste is firmly dry, punchy earthy bitterness which lingers, leafy, floral, nutty, spicy, woody, rivita, brown bread and tannin with a drying finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. More bitter than I was expecting. Decent gear.

Keg at Cloudwater London. Pours clear copper-gold with a tight, creamy off-white head. Light-medium sweet flavour with notes of toasted grains, caramel, leaves, light doughy biscuits. Light bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Balanced finish, more toasted grains, biscuits, soft leafy notes. Really drinkable beer.

Can picked up from Big Scary Monsters Cowley Road Oxford. Consumed Wednesday 13th October 2021 at Isobel's, Spond nr Kington, Herefordshire. Pours deep gold edging towards a copper colour with a white head. Light bitterness, a little metallic, dry, breadyness, actually really good and really lengthy dry and light or perhaps mid bitterness. Perhaps could have been a little colder (my fault) it was in the fridge but maybe not quite long enough.
