A stunning full bodied Welsh porter, smokey, chocolate and liquorice flavours, with subtle spicy bittering hops. Black Diamond is a seasonal cask ale but available all year round in bottle.

Handpull cask at the Salmon, Leicester. Mid- to dark brown, a little translucent with a small film of khaki head. Dark malts on the nose, lots of liquorice, some caramel. Sweet taste, a little vegetal, with light hoppy bitterness in the finish. Very light body, flat. It is okay.

A 500ml bottle brought back from my trip to South Wales earlier this year. A decent porter with coffee & chocolate, earthy & smokey. Not too sweet but you can pick out the liquorice.

Bottle. Nose is roast, licorice, hint of chocolate. Taste is earthy smokey, light fruit, leading to a bitter medicinal and licorice finish.

Cask @ Bishops Arms Gustav, Malmö. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted fruity chocolate aroma. Roasted malty chocolate and caramel bitter flavor. Slightly thin mouthfeel. Has a roasted malty caramel chocolate finish.

Cask at Captain Cooks, Östersund. A middling Porter that did what it intended with reasonable Malt girth and dark black colour.

500ml bottle from Brewer’s Stand at NEC Good Food Show - Deep ruby black body, off-white head. Nose and taste are standard roast and toast, coffee, chocolate and liquorice. Not too bad.

Bottle from the brewer’s own stand at the Good Food Show at Birmingham NEC. Brown-black with a beige head and a light fizz. Roasty malt and chocolate in a rather light body. Pretty average.

Cask @ Calans, Hebden Bridge. Dark clouded brown with a small head. Has some very palatable dark and roasted malts in both aroma and taste.
