Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, thanks to Paulo, 27/03/14. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a good sized tan covering. Nose carries a big blast of raspberries, cocoa pangs, light roast, sugars, sweet berry compote. Taste comprises chocolate dipped raspberries, cocoa powder, light roast, perfumed notes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation. Ok easy drinking porter but lacks a little depth for 6%, not getting the bourbon either.

26th March 2014
Opaque dark brown beer, big fluffy tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry with good fine minerally carbonation. Light dry malt wit a touch of sweet cream. Unsweet raspberry runs throughout. Just a whisper of tangy and slightly bitter bourbon. Dry finish. Woody raspberry bitter linger. Interesting but could do with a little more bourbon barrel to provide a stronger counterpoint to the raspberry and to provide some oaky sweetness.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Paul. Pours deep brown with a creamy tan head. Engaging dark raspberry in the nose, subtle chocolate. Light to medium sweet flavor with chocolate-covered raspberries, dark bread, soft burnt wood. Medium bodied with average to lively carbonation. Moderately sweet to finish, some stronger burnt wood, further chocolate and dark raspberry. Nice stuff.

Bottle. It pours darkest brown with a thick beige head. The nose is earthy, toasty, cocoa, wood, vanilla, toasty coconut and berry. The taste is toasty, earth, roast, tart raspberry, cocoa, berry yoghurt, light spice and wood with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Seems to lack body in comparison to the base beer, but interesting anyhow. More raspberry than bourbon barrel.

Bottle courtesy of Craig at Craigs doing a Chris O tasting, Edingburgh (ta for the beer Craig) Saturday 15th March Pours black with a thin rim of beige head. Tangy and fruity didn’t realise this was raspberry but as soon as I tasted it mmhh... it does show. I rather like this, its got a nice fruity tang. Like it. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.5

500ml bottle from Appellation Wines, shared with Ashton McCobb. Cheers Ash! Pours near-black with a thick beige head, doesn’t last though. Aromas has raspberry, wood, bourbon and vanilla. Taste is sweet and light chocolate. Like weak cocoa and bourbon mixed. Thin and sweet. The base beer is brilliant, and the barrel-aging has unfortunately made it worse. It’s all over the place, flavour-wise and not coming together well.

50cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely big crema head. Nose - definite fresh raspberry, plus some woody booze. I’d like to get some chocolate but not three though it is nice. Taste - it’s Coconut Cream biscuits. Dessicated coconut on marshmallow. Palate - medium to full bodied with a creamy texture and a finish that is unfortunately far too sweet. It lacks drinkability. Overall - It’s very interesting and complex but too much Bourbon influence which makes it too sweet.
