Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Clear, very dark brown. Slimmest halo of tan head. Black treacle. Light, smoky, woodiness. Some dark chocolate. Hint of roast coffee. Taste is milky sweet. Not a great deal of anything more. Palate is a little thin. Sweetness on the finish.

Bottle from Siren, directly from brewery door, consumed at home Thursday 27th February 2014 Pours black quite flat. Thiscis quite a meaty beer with a little stock cube leading onto a soft coffeeness. Light alcohol aroma and wet woody nose. This is really full on in mouth, its got a little clackiness moves onto be a bit dry, its a good beer. A7 A3 T8 P3 Ov15 3.6

Bottle from The Bottle Shop in Canterbury and drunk at home. Black beer lasting tan head. Bitter dark chocolate and definite Buffalo Trace aroma. I drink BT in JDW pubs so am quite well used to it and like it as a bourbon. The question is how does it mix with this beer. Some vanilla and oak on the aroma. Just from the aroma I’m guessing that the barrel ageing may overtake the beer. The great news is, is that I was wrong. The base beer stays strong in the mouth. The barrel ageing for sure comes in on the lasting finish. Chocolate spongecake flavour in the mouth. Touch of bite on the finish. So do I like it? Um. It’s ok. Nothing special. The beer is still a little flat for me. Bit of creamy milky lactic flavour. It’s not something I’d rush out and buy again.
