Sample from 75 cl. bottle. Pitch black with no head. Sweet aroma with barrel, oak, roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, dark, dried fruits, herbal hops and peat. Taste is sweet. Medium body, creamy texture, flat carbonation. Roasted finish with smoke and liquorice. Not for me.

Bottle from the By The Horns Brewery & Tap, Wandsworth, London 14th December 2013 shared with Dad at Rawdon Green, Kilburn, Derbyshire Wednesday 25th December 2013 Black as yer at, pitch black, no head a tar pit of a beer just peeling away to dark brown at the edges. Quite a zippy Imperial Stout, better than the Good King Henry Special Reserve 2005 we’ve just had which is sadly now a pale shadow of its former self. Fruity a little plummy with a bitter aftertaste, roasty the Barrel Ageing is rather faint and far from obtrusive adds an interesting if somewhat understated layer to this. Its good it really is and I think it is very much in the vein of a UK Imperial Stout quite, quite different from an American Impy Stout but a wonderful contrast. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6
