When you think of a classic American Pale Ale - who do you think of?
Sierra Nevada? Oskar Blues? Flying Dog? Anchor?
All these and more were the inspiration for our Commonside Pale Ale, named after the beautiful Wandsworth Common that we call home.
Keeping true to the style, we use all American hops, grown in the Willamette and Yakima valleys of the American Pacific Northwest.
Delicious citrus and pine aroma jumps out of the glass, complemented by a biscuity malt sweetness and a lemony, herbal & bitter finish.
Hops: Nugget, Cluster, Cascade, Centenniel, Ekuanot
Malts: Extra Pale, Best Malt, Caramalt
Yeast: US-05

Keg draught at the brewery tap, Wandsworth. Mid- to dark gold and hazy with a small smattering of off-white head. Malty aroma, some light citrus notes, a bit of pine. Taste takes me back. It's 'generic APA circa 2014' with a bit of piney bitterness riding the wave of grapefruit and tangerine. I mean that as a compliment, it's a great taste. Light body with carbonation on the heavy side. It's not original at all but it's very well-made.

Cask at the Yorkshire Grey, Holborn, London. Pours amber gold with a small bubbly off white head. Aroma is very fruity, with light hop, malt and a touch of caramel. Medium sweetness, light bitterness, with a slight tartness. Body is quite light, texture thinnish, bit too much carbonation. A nice fruity easy drinking ale.

Keg at the Bootlegger, High Wycombe. Amber with a thick white head. Fizzy. Lot of biscuit and fake caramel. Odd hit of absinthe. Grass and plastic. Not convinced on this one.

Bottle picked up at Belleville. It pours hazy golden-orange with a medium white head. The nose is soft, juicy, tangerine, apricot, orange, brioche and passion fruit. The taste is bitter, doughy, orange peel, lemon sherbet, grapefruit, straw, light soap and some florals with a dry, citrussy finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Solid APA action.
