330ml bottle. Opaque darkest brown colour with late awakening, average, creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Dark malty aroma with intense roasty notes, hints of burnt coffee, ashes, herbal hoppy overtones, a touch of green onions. Taste is bitter, almost sourish, roasty dark malty, burnt coffee, cocoa, bitter hoppy; lasting bitter finish, very oily texture, soft palate. Really bitter in dependence on a Black IPA.

Bottle at home, acquire from the Cock, 24/08/13. Columbus/Willamette. Pours light black with a good sized tan head that soon dissipates but retains - a handsome porter for sure! Nose is roast malt, hoppy backnotes, cocoa dusting, mineral tones. Taste comprises roast malt, toasted, good hop backbone, mineral bite, earthy. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, roasty mineral finish. Nice porter!

Draft at The Cock Tavern in Hackney, London on 13 July 2013. Poured a dark ruby/ brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, brown sugar and dark roasted coffee. Some initial burnt sugar sweetness is balanced very nicely by bitter dark malts and coffee and some good hop presence.

Bottle at The Bottle Shop Canterbury. Black beer. It?s not like Ken said as an old man porter its definitely new wave with plenty of hops on the finish. Meaty malty aroma. Some coffee and chocolate. Too hoppy for a true porter in my mind. More a black ipa than a porter. Bit thin in body and too hoppy clearly a black ipa.

Keg at the Cock Tavern. Almost clear dark brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Palate is light and dry. Rich dark malts with dry roast and bitter coffee. No luxuriant dark malt cream here! Touch of bitter dark chocolate. Hops are recessed but also bitter marmalade. Dry and fairly bitter finish. A real mans porter! Despite that I really did like it!
