A beautifully balanced chestnut coloured beer, rich and malty with slight burnt notes, full bodied with delicate bitterness balancing the biscuit flavour from crystal malted barley. Smooth on the finish.

Cask gravity at the London drinker beer fest 2017. A mostly clear dark amber brown coloured pour with a loose off white head. Aroma is rough raw grains, nutty semi sweet, dried fruits,. Flavour is composed of grainy farmyard, rustic malts, tangy apple. Rough round the edges. Palate is grainy, flabby. Wouldn’t expect much more from Southwark.

Handpump at Porter Market in London. Dark caramel a bit ruby, gassy ivory foam. Nose: very little aroma of dust, macerated fruit, molasses. Mouth: far too anonymous for me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cask at the brewery. Deep reddish-brown with virtually no head. Poor condition which is a bit of a shocker given that it was at the brewery itself for crying out loud. I mean, if it’s that bad condition at the brewery itself what chance have any of the pubs it sells to got? Anyway, it tastes of chocolate, earth and sour fruit. Not the best mild, but just about OK.
