Eye of the Hawk is an excellent, strong, rich bodied ale that is "Bottle Conditioned" to perfection. "Eye" is coppery reddish-amber in color and its unique taste is the result of a judicious mix of caramel and pale malted barley, balanced with Cluster, Cascade and Saaz hops. This gives the Eye its luxurious flavor, substantial mouth-feel and that slightly dry finish.

This ale poured a golden amber colour with a beautiful, off white, creamy head. To the nose there is scents of caramel, citrus, ,malt and a bread / toast scent. First sip was very flavourful and medium/heavy sweet with flavours of heavy malt, citrus hopps and a finish that was somewhat bitter. Very malty flavour lingering on the palate.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a glass. Pours an amber with very small beige head, thick body, light lacing, and light carbonation. Aroma is biscuit, some nut, and a hint of caramel. Taste is yeasty, bready, a hint of caramel. Overall I won’t buy any more.

Clear golden with a medium off white head. Rotten vegs in the aroma with hints of malt. Flavour had rotten vegs, malt, caramel and hints of hops that gave it a dry and slightly bitter finish.

Very carbonated amber ale. Head was excessively foamy. Lots of malt and caramel, some doughs and spruce. I’ve had better. Rated 8/14/02

12oz bottle. Hazy amber-brown with a foamy off white head. Bitter caramel aroma, almost ambery, maybe just old and off. Solid caramel malt body, amber malts, rich and sticky with a covered up steady hop backbone. This has never struck me as a particularly drinkable beer, rather crude and sugary sweet. Either way, packs a nice hop punch, and makes you want to try and enjoy it. Sub par, one of my least favorite Mendocino products.
