Bottle: Unfiltered In 1952, in order to place the modernisation of the brewery on the right commercial footing, much care was taken with the launch of Rochefort's two new beers. The refectory beer had been the basis for the development of the ‘Middel’ (also known as ‘Merveille’) which became the Rochefort 6. The 10, however, needed something else to elevate it: candy sugar, steeped in the wort in metal baskets, quite an innovation in those days. Furthermore, two malts were used in the brewing process: pils and caramel malt, as well as wheat starch, two varieties of hops and Rochefort’s own yeast. The result was the powerful Rochefort 10, a beer sure to warm your heart with its robust dose of alcohol.

New vintage tasting very good, sweet toasted malts, sweet molasses, lots of caramelised brown sugar, dried fruit shred, nice yeasty linger, more dried fruit into the lingering spiced malty finish. Lovely.

The best quadrupel I’ve ever had. Aroma is that of dark cherries. Apperance is a dark, pleasant color. Flavor is the best part of this beer. It has a very well balanced taste. This is the type of beer a wine drinker would love. Trying to figure out the complexity of this beer is quite a challenge. Because of alcohol content it goes straight to your head and feels warm inside. Overall a great beer.

Still plenty of pop on this one. Rich stewed fruits, berries, mild toffee, brown bread, toasted sugars. No oxidation noted. Great stuff.

Born Jan 7. Probably my face of Rochefort. But their Triple Extra though is very nice too.

Easily my favorite Trappist.
I’ve had the westy 12, and I’m still partial to this beer. Aroma is just loaded of dried fruits, and sweetness. Flavour is very rich, and very complex, nice spice to it, almost chewy. A beautifully crafted beer, a wonderful warmer. Hides the alcohol very well. Simply superb.

Bottiglia.
