What we really want to write here is just Pale Ale… but that’s not very informative (nor should it be). We want to shout it at people. Get them excited. People nowadays rarely get excited about a pale ale. Pale Ale! This beer is a collaboration between Dugges Bryggeri and Cloudwater Brewing Co., Manchester, UK. We wanted to explore the cooperation between a soft, biscuity malt base and lots and lots of fruity hops. We wanted to make a modern pale ale staple. The one you have in your fridge at all times. The goto. The neo-session. The pale ale, pale ale, pale ale. Vienna malt and oats gives the base, American hops in abundance gives the treble. And in the middle, there’s just pure delight. Pale ale!

Probably waited too long to try this. Solid fruity hops but also plenty of black tea.

Keg at Tilt, Birmingham. It pours hazy golden - blonde with a decent white head. The aroma is rather soft and mellow, bready malt backbone, quite juicy, apricot, peach, plum, melon and candy. The taste is crisp, dry. restrained level of bitterness, juicy, apricot and peach. brioche, green hops and spring onion. Finish is dry. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Very well - rounded and highly drinkable.

330ml bottle. Cloudy, yellow-ish, deep golden colour with average, frothy, moderately lasting and lacing, white head. Citrusy and tropical fruity, hoppy aroma, slightly biscuity, caramel malty basis, notes of pineapple, grapefruit, some passion fruit and papaya, a touch of marmalade. Taste is bitter hoppy, citrusy and tropical fruity, sweetish caramel malty basis, notes of pineapple, papaya, some grapefruit, orange, marmalade; long lasting, bitter finish. Half-way New England style Pale Ale.

Draft glass @ Gollem. Orange amber, clear, creamy white head. Nose is far more mellow than I expected, stone fruit, very mellow, pine, peach, caramel. Taste is far duller than expected, caramel, orange peel, bit sweet, faint yoghurt yeast, too mellow with toffee, malt, caramel. Body is mellow caramel, low yoghurt yeast. Far mellow than expected. Given Cloudwaters involvement, I expected more especially looking at the great score.

Bottle at Sorbon. Hazy golden/orange with a white head. Fresh and hoppy with quite alot of fruit, mainly mango and passionfruit. Also light malt and some juice. The body was medium as was the bitterness.

Bottled, from Systembolaget. Hazy golden, mid sized head. Aroma of pineapple and passionfruit. Mid dry with medium body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Pineapple, passionfruit and citrus, some peppery saccharine. Long bitter finish. Ok, but a bit heavy on tropical fruit juice from concentrate.

Light haze on this gold beer, thin pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, reasonable carbonation. Light malts, lightly sweet, trace of dry cream. Modest citrus fruits with some crystallised orange and lemon. Light finish brings a mild bitterness. It’s alright but safely lacking any wow factor.
