A nod to the Americas, the word Feallan is the old English word for “to fall” obviously referencing, as the Americans term it, “the fall”, autumn as it should be called. And of course, Oktoberfest falls (no pun intended!) during autumn. This beer is an English take on German tradition and it abides by the traditional rules. Lager, tick, extra, malty like Marzen, tick, higher abv than your standard lager, tick! It’s a superlative example of the traditional style. It amalgamates caramel, sweet malts and lager crispness marvellously. If you Feallan, this beer will catch you!

Medium white head. Hazy amber body with light carbonation. Wet straw and wood aroma with funky fruity milky notes. Dry-sweet milky sugary wild berry taste with spicy grainy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel, slightly slick. Dryish mealy fruity perfumy honey aftertaste with papery butterscotch notes. Odd. A bit disharmonic. Not bad, though. (0.4l draft @ Schouskjelleren, Oslo.)

On tap at Crowbar, Oslo. Almost clear golden to amber with an off-white head. Malty aroma with caramel and hints of fruits and spices. Sweet, malty and slightly caramelly with lightly spicy notes and a somewhat dry and lightly bitter finish. Medium body with a slightly sticky and sirupy feel. Mild in flavour, but well balanced. A bit on the sweet side, but with a nice bitterness in the finish. All in all quite nice! (2013-02-22)

Keg at craft beer rising. It pours clear golden-orange with a small white head. The taste is zesty orange, sponge cake, tangerine, custard and vanilla. The taste is orange sponge cake, lemon drizzle cake, pithy citrus, biscuit and light spice. Medium body and fine carbonation. Nicely joined up. Pretty tasty.

Keg at York Tap. Malty, malty, malty. Finish short and sweet. Oh, and more malt. Good carbonation, but a bit malty for me.

Keg at a crowded Euston tap - and no I don’t care if you are 6ft 6in - you ain’t pushing in front of me you fuckwit! Light haze on this amber beer, little white head. Palate is softish but with good minerally carbonation. Creamy malt. Light dried orange streak, mild floral note and then more generic dried fruits. Subtle nutty streak and a little apple like ester. Finishes airy with a light spice. Drinkable - decent!

Keg at the Euston Tap, London. Pours clear, rich gold with a small, creamy cap. Sugary bready malt nose, hints of semi-ripe fruits. Medium sweet flavor, doughy bread, some mellow leafy bitterness, toasted grains. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Crispy, bready malts to finish, mild fruitslow bitterness, hints of moist wood. Decent.
