Cask@Charlie Bar, CPH Dark nut brown color, small brownish head. Light ashy aroma. Light to medium-bodied. Licorice and ash in the flavor. "Ashtrayish". Lacks normal fruity hoppyness of black IPAs.

Opaque black - brown beer, small bubbly tan head. Palate is fairly neutral with mild carbonation. Tangy dark malts, not roasty or bitter. Tangy sweet marmite. Tangy dark fruits. Finishes semi with mild bitterness. A bit different.

500ml bottle [442/545]. Darkest brown colour with late awakening, small, frothy, moderately lacing, beige head, a good deal of bubbles adhere to the bezel. Dark malty aroma with hints of treacle, liquorice, coffee. Taste is dry dark malty, subtle sweet undertones, hints of treacle, some roast, with a slightly unpleasant, strange, dry, tarmac touch throughout - bummer!

[5/6/13] Cask at Charlie’s bar in Copenhagen. Black with a beige to light brown foam. Roasty aroma with some coffee and light hops notes. Pretty roasty flavor with a bit of coffee, a bit of mocha, light sweetness and a bitter finish, a bit hoppy and herbal. Medium-bodied.

(Cask at Craft Beer Co Brixton, London, 27 Apr 2013) Black colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with coffee, dark chocolate and black rye bread. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, ashes, tobacco, roasted malt, caramel, liquorice, burnt sugar and a balanced coffee bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and quite nice.

Bottled (fro AbM). Very deep ruby red (close to black) colour, with a mediumsized beigeish brown head. Aroma is coffee, some roasted malts, chocolate and mild liquorice as well. Flavour is very similar with pleasantly balanced fruity and ripe fruity notes. Nicely balanced.

Cask@hare and billett, Blackheath, SE London - Black pour with a tan head, strong roasted malts, with strong mocca and licorice. Has a rather weird after taste i could not place, not sureif it was the cask condition or not, think i will maybe try a retaste sometime on this.

Cask handpump at The Queens Head, Chelmsford. A good looking pint, black with a small off white head. But this old ale had a rather pungent aroma to get passed. It tasted rather better, with the treacle and licorice coming through
