Phantasmagoria is an IPA that is low in malt flavors, but high in hops. We brew this beer as a nod to the big hoppy beers of the west coast. We use loads of citrusy and piney hops at the end of the boil and in the fermenter to make this beer a hop experience.

[12oz can from Total Wines, Naples, FL.] An opaque amber coloured pour with a thin cream head, with the look of a milkshake IPA; aroma of sour grains and some weak tropical fruit; malty taste with traces of pineapple and mango; developing in to a fruity sourness at the finish with clear signs of the alcohol. Not the best DIPA I've come across, but a decent attempt at something a bit different to the norm.

Crisp and clear raw honey coloured glowing body with some orange and light amber tints along with a thinnish, single to two centimetre tall pure white head. Aroma of honey, alcohol, light hops, some citrus, a good deal of resin and pine notes along with a supportive malt scent and some lighter yeast elements. Medium-bodied; Strong rich honey and sweet resin flavours with some pineapple and tropical fruits at first, but the grain and biscuity malts kick in near the end, and are quickly overpowered by the alcohol and pungent and almost astringent notes that cut through everything. Aftertaste shows the sweetness at first with a light medicinal and pungent alcohol and funkiness with a little tropical fruits and resin hoppiness along with a grainy malt towards the end, but fairly well-balanced and still showing some good characteristics, but not amazing by any means. Overall, a decent beer, and perhaps aged quite well in certain ways, but even when factoring in the loss in hoppiness (of course), this doesn't show greatly and isn't worth trying to find or sample, especially at the price point! I sampled this stubby, twelve ounce bottle purchased from The Liqour Collection in Honolulu, O'ahu, Hawai'i on 23-August-2016 for US$8,95 sampled at my house here on the opposite end of this fine country, in Washington on 26-January-2019, about two and a half years after purchase.

Can. Pours unclear yellow. Aroma is strong malts, tropical hops, lichi, pineapple. Body is heavy and strong, malt forward, pineapple, lively carbonation, sweet fruity palate. Good, but with 3 months already too old.

Acquired in a four pack of 12 oz. bottles at a local beer store, this particular bottle is being poured into a tall chilled beer glass. Nice delivery, all hazy solid-gold liquid completed by a powerful off-white head that looks to be lacey. A sniff of the glass, herbal and field, a little different. Let's see if it translates. Hmm now. As happens often the taste blows by the scent. Not your usual IPA influences, I get instead a initial touch of honey, then a light hoppiness, toffee perhaps and biscuit. Different than expected and sometimes different is not bad. I will ponder this one over the next three bottles.
