Tap @ Old Coffee House, London. Black with a lasting light brown head. Aroma is sweet, malty, roasted malt and rather hoppy - tropical fruit. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish. This is more imperial black IPA than imperial stout. 250413

Cask @ Old Coffee House, Very very dark and opaque brown colour, aroma of pine, carob, soy and mollases, same traits in the flavour with the addition of some dark bread, medium bitterness and a light complementing sourness. I couldn’t detect the citra, but still an excellent balanced beer.

Cask at the Old Coffee House, split with Chris, Jan and Charlotte, 18/01/13. Mid black with a thin tan head that clears to the edge. Nose carries roast malt, molasses, toffee, smokey gammon, touch of chocolate. Taste comprises roast malt, chocolate, hop presence, light pine, smoked pork, barley. Full end of medium body, slightly prickly carbonation which is a let down for me, some hop biterness in the dry finish. Ok but not top draw!

(Draught at King William IV, Leyton, London, 22 Nov 2012) Black colour with creamy, beige head. Malty, hoppy nose with citrus, grapefruit, coffee and a touch of brett. Roasted, malty taste with notes of coffee, grapefruit, resin, pine needles, a touch of chocolate and a generous piney, resinous bitterness in the finish. Full body, with a certain sweetness. I wouldn’t call it balanced or subtle, but it’s really nice in moderate amounts.

Keg at the Cock Tavern. It pours opaque, near black, with a small beige head. The nose is roasted malt, fresh citrus, toast, earth, soft dark fruit, light soy sauce and chocolate. The taste is roasted malt, salted caramel, liquorice, coffee grinds, dark fruit, toast, earth, light citrus, mango, toasted sesame seed, hint of soy sauce and bitter chocolate, with a dry, roasty finish. Full body and fine carbonation. Flavoursome and well balanced, yet smooth and mellow. Dangerously drinkable.

Cask @ King William IV. Black body with a small beige head. Aroma is citric fruity, grapefruit, malt and a hint of mocha. Flavor is fine malty, lots of citric fruit, pleasant bitter, chocolate and some coffee. Fine and smooth body, nice aftertaste. Nice and interesting in flavor, well balances, dangerously easy to drink and the high alcohol is almost completely camouflaged.

3rd September 2012
At the King William brewpub. Opaque black - brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Nice soft and light palate. This really doesn’t feel like a 10.0% beer. Mild dark malt cream underpins soft juicy citra hops. There is orange but also subtle mango and other tropical fruits. The smooth dark malt has traces of roast and chocolate but overall this is a mildly hoppy and fruity stout. Finishes smooth with mild hop bitterness. So very drinkable.
