They should be good men; their affairs as righteous: But all hoods make not monks. Beneath a deep blanket of snow there is a cereal grain that can survive the harsh winters and acidic soils - RYE. Like a draped hood over a monk, it is the righteousness inside that shines.

Can shared at a tasting at Dagan’s place. Hazy dark amber-brown with a beige head. Pleasant hops aroma of flowers, some tropical fruits and citrus. Flavor starts with a bit of sweetish malt and a hint of graininess and continues bitter and hoppy. Medium-bodied. Nice.

Can: Poured a brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma consists of spicy rye malt with solid hosp presence. Taste is a nice mix between some spicy rye malt with a solid hosp presence with some medium bitter notes. Body is quite full with a creamy texture and good carbonation. Really enjoyable and quiet refreshing.

Picked up a 4-pack from Whole Foods in Fairfax, VA for about $12. A - Poured sternly into a DogfishHead glass. produced a 1.5 finger head that was cream color with a milky top and lots of little bubbles. The beer itself is a very deep mahogany. it’s dark with just hints of amber. The head subsided in about 90 seconds. S - Vanilla, burnt malts, rye barrels like some more refined whiskey smells I’d get from a whiskey. Banana but it may just be the really sweet rye smell. T - Right on the first sip, there are some delicious hops just exploding all over the place and they’re a very floral / piney taste but they’re calmed down by the rye and sweeter aspects that take over. M - Nicely carbonated and not over taking at all. The beer lingers a while and it’s easy to drink quickly or sip. Just nice and delicious mouthfeel! O - I’m happy there are 3 more of these in the fridge. This is a spectacular beer. Sixpoint hasn’t let me down yet.

Can bought at River City Cellars, Richmond. Cloudy brown with no head and slight carbonation. Citrus hop and bread malt aroma. Flavour of sweet, rye grains with some orange fruit and dryish finish. Mixture of hops and rye didn’t work for me.

Sampled from a 16 oz can this beer poured a medium brown color with a large soapy off white head that lingered and left excellent lacing. The aroma was sweetish with strong floral and moderately earthy hops. The flavor was bitter and astringent with strong floral hops. Long finish and medium body. Ok.

Can at BLT Grill New York. Pours dirt brown with a tan head. Sweet cookies, cereal and citrusy hops, not so harsh and sticky as many Rye beers are.

Can from a 4 pack. $8.65 @ Gary’s Beverage, Portsmouth, NH. Best Before date is: 10 NOV 2011. Served in a pint glass. Hazy copper in color. Soap-like, white head that had plenty of lace. Nose is citrus and pine resin. Looks and smells awesome! Flavors are grapefruit upfront, a nice spicy rye through the sip with a mild lingering bitterness in the finish. It has a juicy, wet hop quality in the mouthfeel. I really like what this brewery did with this beer. Very easy to drink with lots of flavor. I enjoy this. I was reaching for another, after I finished the 1st can.

16 ounce can from Beer Run. Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a large rocky, frothy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of big spicy rye notes, caramel and a earthy, fruity finish. The taste is rye, spicy hops, caramel, earthy notes, stone fruits and burnt sugar. Medium bodied. Nice beer.
