Brilliantly clear, bright gold and subtly flavored, Sunbru is one of Four Peaks’ most drinkable beers. But “drinkable” doesn’t mean “simple;” Sunbru took home gold at the World Beer Cup in 2012. When brewers from Cologne—the city in which the style was invented—are asking you for your recipe, you know you’ve got a beer worthy of being called Kölsch.

Draft pour at Four Peaks, Tempe. Clean, crisp, golden pour. Quick fading head. Cracker grains, grassy hops. Crisp and cool finish. Standard light kolsch with little flaws to point out. Very good addition to the style.

On tap at Four Peaks in Tempe, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out cereal notes and dry biscuity malt. Flavour is clean, with cereal malts and biscuity notes. True to style and easy to drink, but... it's a kolsch.

Draught at the airport location, 11/2/15.
Clear, white golden appearance with blonde hues. Good, foamy white head shows moderate retention.
Light corn, vanilla and other cereal-derived notes aren’t quite as delicate as the real thing, but there’s certainly nothing off-putting or artificial here. Very low hops, with only a passing herbal character (dill, thyme) and a moderately sweet dough and cracker-like finish. Obviously the requisite "light, mindless, mass-appeal" beer for them, but it dosent disappoint.
Well-attenuated, with grass, vanilla, honey and cracker notes all combining nicely. Very strong carbonation perhaps gives it more of a dry feel than it actually is; I do get some sweet doughiness on the end which feels a bit rushed in brewing. Kolsch is probably a bit of a stretch, but it’s a fine, clean, easy-drinking golden ale.

On tap at Black Hole Beer Company. Pours a hazy yellow gold with large frothy off white head that lasts. The aroma is wheat grass and herbs. Thin mouth, similar flavors to nose, light bitter finish, decent.
