2 February 2019. At Brugs Bierfestival. Cheers to tderoeck, 77ships, Jerre, Kevin & Anke! Provisional rating of the 2018-2019 'limited edition' called Apfelstrudel, actually the base beer Red Label tapped through a filter of raisin, apple & cinnamon. Hazy brown-red with a lasting, small, foamy, tan head; little lacing. Aroma of apple cake indeed, red apple, cinnamon, almond, frangipane, cookie dough, raisin. Taste is medium malty sweet, lots of dough filled with apple jam & raisin, nutty touch of almond & caramel; light spicy bitterness has cinnamon & a herbal touch. Dryish, herbal hoppy finish, but maltiness prevails in notes of apple cake, red apple & caramel. Medium body, slick-creamy texture, soft carbonation. All in all something between an 'Apfelstrudel' and frangipane, better than the 17-18 edition and I'll gladly take this version into account. Original rating: 7/4/6/3/13=3.3. 4 February 2018. At Brugs Bierfestival. Cheers to Anke & Pieter! According to the festival guide, a 'limited 17-18' edition. But is it? Hazy amber with a lasting, small, foamy, tan head. Aroma of caramel, nuts, raisin, red fruits, hops, some alcohol. Tastes light cherry-like sweet and very light berry-like sour, leading to a medium hoppy bitterness with hints of nutty malts. Dry, winey finish. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. All the flavours are there but it's not really going anywhere.

Draft glass @ Beerlovers Bar. Dark red brown amber, tanned head. Nose is overripe dark fruit, BE nasty soap. Taste is BE unpleasant leaves, soap, bread, raisin, bit chemical, not getting the nuts clearly. Body is BE messy soap, grainy, leaves, low chemical. Messy & subpar Belgian. Even if I do get the need for mainstream appeal, this one is disappoint compared to their other stuff for me.
