A decadent stout, inspired by the special British ales exported to the Russian Court, during the 18th century. It is black and viscous like crude oil from the oil fields in the Caspian Sea. The flavor is dominated by dark notes of burnt sugar, spicy hops and smokiness from peaked malt.

500 ml bottle into snifter. Purchased from The Party Source, Bellevue, KY. Thin off white head that left mild retention. Nose is odd. Sugar, smoked malts and band- ads. Thankfully the flavor is much better. Nice smoked peat notes, burnt coffee, roasted malt, caramel, dark fruits and licorice. Medium leaning on light body with low carbonation. Texture has an ash or char feeling. The ABV is completely masked. Pretty nice stout overall.

500ml bottle @ Pikkulintu, Helsinki
Pours pitch black with a small white head. Aroma of roasty malts, smoky leather, syrup and ash. Taste is roasty and mildly smokey with notes of licorice, syrup and ash. Finish is sweetish and roasty with some hints of smoke, licorice and ash. Okay imperial stout, slightly too sweet for my taste.

Bottle. Black with a large tan head. Aroma of treacle, coffee, grass and peat. Smooth: oily getting on towards syrupy, insistent carbonation. Tastes moderately sweet with dark sugars, coffee, tar. Pepper emerges with firm bitterness as the sweetness lifts rather quickly. Wood and smoke linger with the spicy bitterness. Some anise and/or licorice. Doesnβt seem that powerful at first but reveals itself to be a bit of a brooding beast despite the smoothness of it. Really quite heavily hopped but never comes across as brash. Very nice.

(Bottle, 0.5 l - BBE 09/07/22, at Pikkulintu, 20130106) The beer poured black. Its head was quite large and light brown. Aroma had roasted malts, liquorice and hops. Palate was full bodied and a bit dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were roasted malts, liquorice, sweetness, coffee, hops, pine and bitterness. Aftertaste had sweetness, roasted malts, ash and bitterness. A tasty dry imperial stout where alcohol was very well hidden.

Huge brown head grows so rapidly it overflowed the glass. Nearly opaque black body goes deep dark red at bottom. Roasty caramelly aroma with burnt chocolatey notes. Dry-sweetish roasty caramelly burnt sugar taste with chocolatey resiny notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, slightly hot mouthfeel. Dry chocolatey resiny aftertaste with spicy burnt sugar notes. Interesting, drinkable, and full of flavour. Perhaps a little bit harsh. (0.5l bottle, wine monopoly, Vika, Oslo.)

Bottle thanks to Ken at the 0-65% tasting. It pours darkest brown with a thick beige head. The nose is roasted malt, varnish, Seville orange, dark chocolate, wood and light medicinal note. The taste is roasted malt, toast, charcoal, bitter-sweet aspect, burnt sugar, plum, prune, Dandelion & Burdock, touch of smoke, decent bitterness, coffee and tar with a dry, warming finish. Medium-full body, moderate carbonation and chewy mouth-feel. Smooth and good depth of flavour. Pretty delicious stuff!
