Named after a stuffed red squirrel that used to live in the Driftwood Spars bar. Sadly, Alfie went walkabout a few years back and hasn’t been seen since; we hope he’s in good company wherever he is!

A strong, rich ale with a beautiful deep polished red colour. alfie’s has a big malt flavour, with chocolate and biscuit notes.

Bottle at home. It pours deep red - brown with a tiny off-white head. The aroma is earthy, woody, bitter - sweet, old leather sofa, dried fruits, twig and dirt. The taste is smooth, woody, leather, tannins, earth, spice, dirt, twig, some alcohol, toasted nut, dried fruits and berry skin wi a dry, woody finish. Medium body and low carbonation. Good bit done with a bit more carbonation to pick this up a bit. OK, but I had hoped for bit more depth.

Bottle from the brewer’s own stand at the Good Food Show at Birmingham NEC. Deep amber. Slight woody earthiness, leaf mulch and caramel and a light bitterness. Very traditional UK beer. Not bad, preferred the Keltek Beheaded I had before though.
