Cask at the GBBF 2017. Day 3. 10/08/2017. A black dark brown coloured pour with a forthy tan head. Aroma is ashy roast, oyster, mineral and liquorice. Palate is dry roast,internal, decent cask condition. Flavour is composed of dry ashy roast, butter liquorice. Decent.

Bottle on holiday in Lyme Regis. Clear dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light, semi dry and fairly crisp. Thin tangy dark malts. Some dark chocolate. A little roast bitterness runs throughout. Light dry finish. Drinkable but just another stout.

Cask at CBC Holborn - London. Pours clear, deep reddish brown with a foamy fawn cap. The nose holds ashy roast and milk chocolate. Light sweet flavorbwith continuing milky chocolate, earthy bitterness, some burnt leaves, mellow ash, dried berries. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Decent balance to finish, further cocoa, subtle earthy bitterness, burnt wood. Fine.

Cask, gravity dispensed, at the Spring Festival at the Rose & Crown, Sandhurst. Darkest mahogany in colour with a ring of white head; chocolate malt aroma; and a sweet chocolate malt taste with some chewy toffee in the background; then a dry finish with some lingering coffee grounds.

Pint in bath pub. Dark almost black colour, with tan head. Aroma roasted maltand colour. The taste has a nice bitterness.

Cask at Cambridge Blue, Cambridge on 22 November 2013. Poured black with a small, rocky tan head. Mild aroma with some dark fruit and burnt malt. Mouth feel was a bit disappointingly watery. Sweet flavours initially; apple pie, caramel and molasses. Finish balanced it with some roasted malt, cereal and burnt sugar.

Cask at CBI, London on 23rd February 2013. Deep ruby with quick dying head. Berries and vanilla aroma. Vanilla and spice in mouth.Smooth fruity finish. Velvet mouthfeel.

Cask at Craft Beer Co Islington. It pours near black, with a small beige head. The nose is roasted malt, smoke, toast and coffee. The taste is soft roast, dark fruit, toast, ash, plastic, some astringency and coffee grinds with a very dry finish. Light-medium body and soft carbonation. Ok.

Bottle 500ml.Clear dark red brown colour with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate malt, dusty. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, dry, roasted malt, dark roasted, chocolate malt. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20120915]

Cask at the Cask, Pimlico - 28/09/12. Very dark chestnut brown with a thin tan head. Roast malts on the nose with a little coffee. Tastes of roast malts, treacle toffee, some nuts. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation leading to a dry finish.
