Old rating from 08-03-15 - 500ml bottle from the brewery on my UK road trip. Pours black with a off white head. Aromas & tastes of chocolate, caramel, liquorice & roasted malt. Medium body. Malty finish. Enjoyable

500ml bottle, from Heck's in Stone, drank at home on Saturday 11th January 2025. It's as 'Black as yer Hat', with a tanned crust. Malty with a dark chocolate bitterness.

Bottle. Nose is smokey sweet malt treacle. Taste is very smokey treacle dark malt lightly fruity and ash in the finish. Lots of body Good drink for a campfire

Bottle from Truckles, Burn-on-Sea. Aroma has berries, mocha and Horlicks. Dark and glossy. Delicate foamy dark beige head. Medium-heavy bitter. Black coffee. Liquorice. Tart berry edge. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Average prickly carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Enjoyable stuff.

500ml bottle at our lodge in Cheddar. Pours dark, off white head. Molasses, liquorice, dark malt galore, medium to light bodied, gentle bitterness. Ok.

Cask at THE Wellington, Birmingham. Poured almost black in colour with a lasting bubbly off white head. The aroma is roasty malt, with a light, slightly watery, roasty, light dry ashtray, light hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask @ Trades Club, Hebden Bridge. Black with an off-white creamy head. It has steady but understated dark malts with a decent mildly light sweetness.

Cask @ GBBF 2017. Pours a black color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty chocolate caramel aroma. Roasted malty chocolate and caramel flavor. Has a roasted malty chocolate caramel finish.
