Backlog. Bottle a few times over the years. Roasted malt aromas with some grassy hop notes. Roasted malt with some pretty strong bitterness and dryness on the finish. Not bad.

From Mar 2007

Pours from 16.9oz bottle a deep amber with a medium sized head of foam that shrinks to just a ring around the edge of the glass and a little lacing.

The smell is of caramel malt.

The taste on first sip has a huge malt character. Lots of roastiness and grain with just a bit of caramel. Further sips in and I'm getting some of the alcohol but it's not intrusive; also, there's some chocolate and fruitness there, mostly a plum flavour that shows up mostly near the finish which itself ends up slightly on the bitter side. It certainly is smooth enough and easy drinking so I'll have to watch it...;^)

Bottom line: This is a good Doppelbock that is worthy of a try.

Sometimes it just does not connect. The 12 oz. bottle gave up a dark, almost black, liquid with a head that has to be coaxed with the pour. How do I describe the nose, medicinal, perhaps. An improvement with the taste, but only so much. Malt heavy, an astringent edge, a glimmer of sweetness following. Just not my style, Just not my beer.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark amber-brown with an initially fizzy beige head that quickly recedes. Aroma is very roasty. Taste is roasted malt, caramel, coffee, nuts, some alcohol, and spice. Finish has a moderate malty sweetness, with low bitterness. Medium body. High carbonation. Nice.

355ml bottle. Pours dark reddish brown with a small head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, syrup, berries and sweet sugary mess. Taste is sweet, stuffy, messy and sugary with hints of syrup and toffee. Finish is sweet, sticky and syrupy with loads of sugar. Sugary mess.

33 cl bottle @ hotel room, Los Angeles. Aroma has grain, some roastiess and cereal. Also raisins. Flavour is very sweet with sticky malt, raisins, ripe fruits and artifical chocolate. Oh wow, this is the most sweet beer I have had for a while. Drinkability is rather bad.

Good, easy drinking but still rich doppelbock. Coffee and light roast. Thick creamy consistency. Black pour with some mocha head and lacing. Good balance. Bottle from total wine.
