Gouden Carolus Indulgence [Indulgence, noun, \in-'dәl-jәn(t)s\ something that is done or enjoyed as a special pleasure] is a limited series of beers brewed every year with varying content. These ‘Indulgence’ brews are exclusive delights to be savoured at special moments or shared with special people.

Cuvée Sauvage is the 2nd taste to be produced under this label. Gouden Carolus Cuvée van de Keizer Rood was blended with 2- and 3-year-old Lambic (20%) from the Boon Brewery (Lembeek). This union combines the best of two brewing traditions: full-bodied and subtly flavoured, fruity and refreshingly sour.

Bottle at Bodney - big thanks to Kenny! It pours hazy golden - yellow with a medium white head. The aroma is soft, sweet, sugary, stewed pear, apple, candy, banana, vanilla and some green veg. The taste is crisp, dry, tart, tangy, sugary, green banana, sherbet, grassy, green veg, granny smith apple, pear, vinous notes and some wood through the finish. Medium+ body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Quite a unique mix of flavours to it. Fun, but I am not sure it all comes together harmoniously.

Bottle shared in Hackney - many thanks to Thom. Pours unclear gold with a creamy, white head. The nose holds vanilla frosting, lemon meringue, wheat bread. Medium sweet flavour with some lime, lemon drizzle cake, melon, more wheat bread, low acidity. Medium to full bodied with massaging carbonation. Lightly warming finish, more wheat bread, light acidity, some booze, tangy lemon. Great stuff.

Hazy blond with thin head. Aroma definitely has the tart funk of a lambic together sweet green grapes and a little yeast. Flavour is sweet and slightly sour. Similar to 'real lemonade' in that context. The alcohol is totally hidden. Pleasantly dry.

Bottle: Poured a nice bright yellow color ale with a large pure white foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of light funky lambic notes with some great Belgian malt notes with residual sugar and light fruity ester. Taste is a nice mix of funky lambic notes with some great Belgian malt notes with some residual sugar notes and fruity ester with a somewhat dry finish. Body is full with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Great mix of complexities and drinkability for this fine Tripel-like beer from a world-class brewery.

750 c&c from Cap Tap. Pours hazy gold with a creamy white head. Aroma is sort of gueuze. Fruit and something lactic? Med + body. Pleasing level of carbonation. Flavor is sort of fruit and gueuze. Pale stone fruit - though white grapes might be in it. The "sour" is quite moderate. It's not entirely dry. Very nice stuff indeed. Quite tasty.

Pours deep gold into a snifter. White head with excellent retention recedes leaving spider lacing. Hot caramel and fruity yeast aromas. Sweet, hot caramel upfront turning quickly to and banana and berries and into the lasting bitter earth and mild pith finish.
