Double stout flavoured with chili and sea salt; can from the AD Delhaize Zwijnaarde. Creamy and dense, thick, plaster-like lacing, mocha-beige, stable head on a black beer with thin burgundy edges. Aroma of roasted walnuts, bitter fondant chocolate, wet leather, coffee grounds, cigar ashes, salmiak and indeed sea salt noticeable, nutmeg, dried chili peppers but softly so, dried blueberries, beef stock. Clean, rounded onset, restrained in sweetness with a subtle beef broth-like umami accent, medium carbonation with slick but full, oily mouthfeel. Light saltiness indeed sits at the edges of a toasty, burnt-nutty, bitter roasted chicory- and black coffee-like core, further bittered by spicy hops and indeed a late and relatively mild, cayenne pepper-like chili heat - mild enough to remain subordinate to the roastiness and the hops. Perhaps a bit too much on the mild side for a true chilihead like myself, but in that sense an accessible introduction to the concept of chili-heated stouts; in any case very solidly constructed and tasty.
#9000
A deep dark stout with a thin mocha head. In aroma, chocolate malt with dark fruits, light mineral notes, faint chilies, smooth. In mouth, a nice chocolate malt with dark fruits et grassy hops, light chilies, pleasant and smooth. On tap at brewery.

Keg at the Bermondsey place. Coffee aroma with a boozy edge. Liqourice tang. Dark. No head. Bitter. A burn to it. Light-medium bodied. Super astringent finish.

Keg @ Anspach & Hobday beer mile arch. Pours black with a small tan head. Lovely rich stout, nice balanced roast, chilli creeps up menacingly on the close but quickly fizzles out. Quite satisfying.

Draft sample @ Swafff! 2022 - shared with the Gentse Bierverniging team.

440ml can 6.8% – Pours a dark brown colour with an average sized mostly lasting tan head. The aroma is roasted malts, bitter chocolate and a hint of peppery spice. A moderately sweet roasted taste, roasted malts, chocolate and a light briny flavours with a warming chilli spice in a sweet roasted finish. The salt and chilli are well balanced and not overpowering. Nice.
