Handpull from the Flying Pig, Cambridge. Murky and impenetrable yellow-orange. Tannic, woody aroma with suggestions of cider vinegar. Taste is sour, tangy and intense. Finishes acrid to the point of biliousness. Swallowing is like trying to down turpentine. Its been too long since I lived in the Westcountry but I think this would be unnecessarily rough by anyone’s standards.

Draught @ Bree Louise. Fairly sour, thin and astringent with a noticeable white wine influence. Quite dry with some tart apples, but just not hitting the right notes for me.

Cask at The Cider Tap, London. It pours cloudy orange, with a thin white film. The nose is apple, red wine, pink lady apple, light tartness, wood and farmyard. The taste is smooth apple, red grape, pear, some tartness, light astringency, faint vinegar and wood. Medium body and low carbonation. Smooth, well balanced and dangerously drinkable.

On tap at Craft Beer Company with Sarah. Pours a clear amber with a white head that dissipates immediately and completely. Aroma has a rich ripe apples with a bit of underlying tartness. Flavor has a nice sweet apple with a bit of tartness to balance the cider nicely.

Plastic growler@Mes & Sim’s Wedding. Hazy orange colour with not too much head. Aroma is apples, alcohol, some mild winelike notes as well as some rather sweet notes. Flavour is quite much the same in a very nice balance.

Bag in a box at The Harp, Chandos Pl, Covent Garden, London, 04.06.11 Pours hazy light/mid amber. Starts with a little sour tang ends with a drying finish, mildly appley & fruity throughout. Not sure that the Rioja ageing adds anything save for the colour, its ok, but I was not so fussed. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov12 3.0
