This mahogany-coloured best bitter has been brewed especially for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival. It has a floral blackcurrant-hedgerow aroma and a soft, spicy, peppery bitterness, followed by a smooth, warming finish.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 22/10/2011. Deep brown with a decent, off-white head. Sweet, fruit and caramel aroma with a touch of earthiness. Flavour was also sweet with a toffee edge and moderately bitter finish. Ok.

Cask at The Hamilton Hall, JDW, London. Pours clear, red-gold with a fine, off-white cream head. Doughy malt aroma with mild fruits. Medium sweet flavor, bread and dough, light fruits, some toast. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Faint leafy bitter finish, more toast and dim fruit. Drinkable.

Cask handpull at Folkestone Spoons. Clear deep mahogany colour with lasting beige head. Its a decent toasty roasty brown dry bitter with some decent brambley fruit. Good mouthfeel. Touch of spice on the dry malt finish. I thought good and fits its name well. I would be happy with a couple of pints of this.
