An old style porter. Smooth and creamy, spiked with port to give it the flavour of dark berries.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely crema head. Nose - dark chocolate or coffee with a berry note, maybe blackcurrant. Taste - chocolate, burnt flavours them some sweetness. Palate - medium bodied but then the texture is thin and the finish is a bit sudden. And then it comes back. Overall - decent. Promised more than it delivered.

Cask at the Blacksmiths Arms, St Albans. Very dark brown with a thin creamy khaki head. Raspberry, chocolate and roast chestnut on the nose. A hint of chimney smoke as well. Sweet and fruity taste throughout. Long warming finish for this ABV. Silky smooth mouthfeel with a slight tingle providedby natural carbonation. Sweet/tart aftertaste. An excellent discovery.

Aroma of yeast, roasted malts, hint of spicy hops, touch of earthy malts
Taste as main flavour, touch of chocolate, some fruity malts in there
Palate - Very fizzy, thinnish body. Smooth palate (once the carb had settled)
Overall - Reasonable porter but too much carbonation

Bottle at the CBC Tune-Up Tasting, London. Thanks to Paul. Pours brown with a fine, beige foam head. Mild dust roast aroma. Medium sweet flavor with light dirt and dusty cocoa. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly drying on the finish, with more dusty roast and cocoa notes. Nice and standard, though the character is still pretty solid.

Bottle at my Pre-CBC Tune-Up Tasting. It pours very dark brown, with a thin beige head. The nose is roasted malt, smoke, bonfire, chocolate and a touch of dark fruit. The taste roasted malt, caramel, wood, charcoal, filter coffee, dark fruit and milk chocolate, with a dry-roasted finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. An all-round good porter.
