Humpty Dumpty has made several appearances in history: as a cannon at the Siege of Colchester in the English Civil War; an ‘egg-otistical’ pedant in Alice Through the Looking Glass; and of course, the unfortunate star of a nursery rhyme. In most cases poor Humpty was left in pieces, though probably not from over-indulgence in this ale!

Our IPA, dangerously smooth at 5.8% ABV, is a warming, oaky-smoky tipple. Humpty has a slightly sweet floral nose, a balanced level of malt supporting the hops and finally a subtle but slightly citrusy finish.

Cask. Amber colour with a small white head. Aroma is toffee, caramel, some mild bread as well as some floral and grassy notes. Flavour is similar, but also has some ripe fruits, wood and some slight alcohol sweetness to it as well.

Cask at Tapping the Admiral - London. Pours perfectly clear amber-gold with a creamy, white head. Sugary hread on the nose, light berries and caramel. Medium sweet flavor with toasted sugars, grapes, biscuits, cereal, brown bread, slight brown sugar. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes with sugary toasted cereal, corn flakes, toasty bread, grains, touhs kf burnt caramel, little to no bitterness, mellow ripe berries. Extremely simplistic but not altogether bad.

500ml Bottle conditioned: 8 days passed it’s BBD when poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 23 May 2013. Lovely looking brew: bright amber with a huge off-white head, even though it was poured slowly and carefully to ensure the sediment stayed in the bottle. Aroma of an English Summers day in a floral garden (yes, I know it’s brewed in Wales). This is a well balanced beer, the malts giving it a slightly sweet front with the hops providing a mini citrus and bittering finish. Medium bodied and almost smooth on the palate, the 5.8% ABV hidden nicely within the flavours and texture of the brew, a fine beer and by far the best of the three I’ve had from this brewery.

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. It’s an unclear, light amber beer with a very small off-white head. Fruity and sourish aroma with a touch of green pine cones. Quite bitter tasting, with some toffee and fruityness. Slightly sour too, finishing bitter and sour. Medium body. Not much pleasant going on here. 110829
