Taking its name from both Mokha, a historical port city for the distribution of African coffees, and the Sidamo province in Ethiopia, Mokasida is a regional blend of coffees that showcases the subtle characteristics of East African beans. When paired with the chocolate and roast character of our imperial stout, Mokasida imparts notes of cocoa, blueberry, and sweet potatoes to make a truly unique beer.

Draft at boothill. Black pour. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, licorice and earthy cream. Taste has bitter earthy roasted coffee, licorice, creamy malt, booze and then some more licorice. If mokasida had been a kind of licorice, I would have believed it. Not my favorite.

20th May 2017, on-tap at Cotteridge (pre-RateBeer tasting session). Black with a tanned foam on top. Coffee esters rule the nose and coffee also dominates taste wise. Rich dark malts obviously blended with some coffee beans (or whatever) combine to give a lovely smooth brew that isn’t just about coffee, there are other flavours within: chocolate and liquorice to name but two.

Tap at Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin broken tan head. The aroma is sweet roasty malt, coffee, red berry fruit liqourice. The flavour is moderate sweet with a smooth rich oily fruity Coffee liqourice bitter palate. Full bodied with flat carbonation.

Draught @ CafΓ© Zeezicht, Breda. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized brown head that leaves fair to good lacing. Aroma is malts, dark malts, some coffee but I’m not too impressed by the aroma which worries me for the flavor. Taste malts, dark malts, light coffee, malt bitter, some dark chocolate, bitter. Medium to full body, texture is a little thinner than I had expected, carbonation is medium. Nice but less "wow" than I had expected.

Rich dark brown coloured body, probably a touch lighter than the typical Speedway, even with almost no head at all - a sliver of lighter brown. Medium-bodied; Strong bitterness that shows a lot of pungency, but trouble finding the source. Chocolate, coffee and roasted malt are all noticeable of course, but so is chicory, vanilla and anise - pungent and not entirely smooth. Aftertaste has a lot of sweetness with some nice deeper roast and anise flavours, but nothing super pungent or complex. Overall, a good beer for sure, but nothing special, worth searching out or even sampling if you have other good options - this is ho-ish hum, and I prefer the traditional Speedway, for sure. I sampled this ten ounce pour on draught from Whole Foods in Pentagon City (Arlington), Virginia on 17-May-2017 for US$5,00 sampled at the end of my driveway.

Tap @Fermentoren, Cph. Black thick beige head. Roast, coffee, cocoa and vanilla aroma. Thick, sweet coffee and roast flavour. Sticky, lasting light coffee bitterness. Near cloying overload, but quite sippable in small doses.
