Tap Winterbierfestival, Gouda: Dark brown coloured brew with an oaky appearance in the taste, also quite sweet.

Sweet and full bodied barley wine. The bowmore gives it a little more depth. but it isn’t my favorite spirit for aging.

Draft @ Emelisse 27/12/2011 as Xmas Bowmore BA. Would be nice to see how it ages.

At ACBF 2011. Peaty aroma. Just not my favourite flavour. Barley wine hardly comes through. Just too Islay, peaty, touch of sweet toffee.

Smell is not the best, at least not what I like. Tastes sort of ’friendly’, soft and ripe. Very nice finish, very nice body and very nice carbonation.

Bottle at ACBF. Very hazy amber beer, nice pale tan head. Sweet malt with marmalade sweet hops supporting the Bowmore whiskey which is not overpowering. A little bubblegum sweetness underneath.

From tap at ACBF2011. Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is roasted malty and slight wooden to vague smoked. Sweet caramelish, fruity and slight wooden. Lingering malty, slight bitter and medium dry into a caramelish and bitter dense finish.

Draught Very good yellow head over veiled orange-amber beer; textbook lace. Almondy nose, rubber gymps - and faraway smoked Islay. In the taste the phenols arrive from the Bowmore. Rubbery again too, a bit pharmaceutical. Alcoholburn, dry-ish, well-bodied and slick. Unusual, but pleasing BW. I think, however, that barrel-aging with something as Bowmore goes better for darker beer.

Sample from tap at ’t Arendsnest. Copper amber colour, dense white head. Aroma of sweet fruits, malts, wood, alcohol, light peat. Flavour is peat, earth/dirt, wood, malts, sweet fruits, liquorice root, alcohol, earth and peat in the finish. Fullbodied. Nice, although a bit overpowering.
