Bottle. Hazy dark orange with small white frothy head, vanilla like aroma, medium carbonation, spicy taste, longish finish. Very good brew!

4oz pour at Churchkey DC pours a hazy orange with some sudsy, white head. Nose has strange notes of jalapeno jelly, dusy, honey, yeast. Flavor is more classic, honey, mild raisin, mild spice, booze. Sticky finish. Weird.

Draft at Churchkey. Poured a hazy amber color with a medium sized head. Aroma was light sweet candi notes, sweet malt. Nice sweet malt flavor. Pretty tasty.

Not a bad beer, about halfway between a strong dark and a strong pale. Pours hazy amber with good head and lacing. Some sweetness and florals in this. Tap at Churchkey.

On draft at ChurchKey DC. Pours a clear orange gold with an off white head. Butterscotch aroma. Flavors of caramel and some spice. Smooth, but somewhat thin, body.

Muddied, hazy brown coloured body with a deep brass and ruby coloured body and absolutely no head or movement at all. Aroma of honey, yeast ,bread, alcohol, raisins, figs, earth, clay and a good amount of scotch - nice and complex in the smell. Medium-bodied; Assertrive prune and raisin sweetness up front with a little earthy bite at the end of malt and a thinnish, metallic twang at the end. Aftertaste is surprisingly simple and one-dimensional with just a deep earthy bitterness noticeable and some very light caramelised sugar flavours - no complexity, no sweetness and no depth. Overall, sort of an enigma where a beer with not a great look leads to an amazing smell, but is followed up by a mildish flavour and then a finish with no character at all - wierd; Decent at best and disappointing for sure. I’m glad I actually purchased this in the USA and didn’t bring it back from Belgium! I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 25-April-2014 for US$3,80 sampled at home in Washington on 14-July-2014 a few days before returning to New York.

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours cloudy orange amber color with a 2-3 finger fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Slight foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of cherry, raisin, pear, herbal, cinnamon, candi sugar, honey, and light yeast spices. Nice and well balanced aromas with good complexity and decent strength; very pleasant. Taste of cherry, raisin, pear, plum, cinnamon, herbal, earth, caramel, pepper, candi sugar, and yeast spices. Lingering notes of light fruits, herbal, pepper, cinnamon, candi sugar, caramel, and yeast spices on the finish for a bit. Good balance and complexity of flavors. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly slick and prickly mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Belgian strong pale ale. Good flavor balance and complexity; very smooth to sip on. Really enjoyable.
