Bitter-sweet Red Ale, A style that you don't see around too much these days, and what a shame it is! Hawkshead's bitter-sweet, malty red is just the ticket if you fancy something a little on different! Very much a traditional beer, there's plenty of earthy and grassy notes to be found intermingled with a strong maltiness and plenty of bitter rye licks.

(Bottle) Brownish red colour with brief, tan head. Malty nose with notes of bread, caramel, dried fruit, nuts, orange peel and spices. Malty taste with caramel, bread, dried fruit, nuts, orange peel and a balanced spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a slight sweetness. Smooth and well balanced. Quite nice.

500ml bottle from Home Bargains: BBE July 2022. Drank at home on 28th September 2021. Ruby hue to the amber/brown body; off-white crown. Malty front to the nose and taste, some hop action gives a semblance of balance, but it's a malty brew all the way.

24/4/2021. Bottle shared with D&J at the welcome to Eva beer share. From Tebay Services. Pours clear amber/copper with a small frothy off-white head. Very nice looking beer. Aroma of malt, bread, berries, nut, dark fruits. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness and body. Slight oily watery texture, average carbonation. Quite enjoyed it other than it being a little thin.
