Cask at William IV during Brodies Birthday Bash 2011. Clearish, red-brown pour with a foamy head. Actually has some grapefruit hops on the nose with mild roast notes. Pleasant flavor, some dry, roasty malts, stones, pine, grapefruit bitterness. Nice character but, not surprisingly, very little oomph. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Dry finish, more pine, rindy citrus bitterness, mild roast. Pretty decent given the ABV.

Cask at Bree Louise, London. A deep red beer with no head. The aroma has notes of chocolate and caramel. The flavor is acidic with notes of roasted malt as well as lighter notes of soy sauce, leading to a very roasted finish. The body is light.

Cask handpull at William IV. Very dark brown colour. Decent lightish stout. Good stuff. Yes some harsh roast. Ken is wrong. But it’s a decent roasted stout.

(Gravicask at Brew Wharf, Southwark, London, 3 Aug 2010) Black colour with no head. Roasted, malty nose with chocolate, liquorice, sweet black coffee, dark rye bread and hints of ashes. Roasted, malty nose with notes of coffee, chocolate, liquorice and a dry finish with a certain coffee bitterness. Thin body, dry, with a generous coffee bitterness. Definitely a bit thin, but tasty and nice.

4th September 2010. Brodies Beer Fest at their Brewpub - King William IV in Leyton.
Opaque black beer. Light dry palate. Lightly roasted malt. A little hop bitterness - orangey and grapefruit. Finishes dry. Nice light crisp stout with a good flavour for it’s low abv.

Cask at the Jolly Butchers, Stoke Newington on 28th August 2010. Brown to black with a pale brown ring of foam. Spice and apricot fruits in the initial aroma. The main taste in-mouth is strongly bitter with some berry fruits in the background. A very bitter finish that builds on each sip. Zingy mouthfeel. Excellent for such a low strength - a well crafted beer and very well-kept in the pub.
