Tommyknockers slipped into the mining camps in the 1800’s with the discovery of gold to the West. The majestic Rocky Mountains have inspired the cool refreshing taste of Alpine Glacier Lager. As clean and fresh as the rushing water from icy streams and as brisk as a climb up a frozen glacier, this brew contains the finest ingredients in the Tommyknocker tradition.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy bright golden color with a small white head. The aroma was sour, skunky and off. The flavor was bitter, sour and tangy typical lager and a little dry. The finish was very short and mild. Blah.

Bottle. Appearance is a slighty hazy gold with minimal carbonation after a smallish, white head forms. Aromas are thick with bready malt and grass but also contain a bit of a funky smell... like old shoes or something. Flavor is nice enough... bread and grass with a slight ammount of peppery hops. Not bad, not great.

Bottle from a sampler. Golden pour with a one finger head, decent retention, not so decent lacing and lots of carbonation. Sweet grainy aroma with a hint of honey. Taste is granny smith apple followed by a dry, grassy bitterness.

Nice yeasty smell, almost like rising bread or somthin. Some gunk on the bottom leads to an attractive hazy swirling pour. Almost wheat-beerish in appearance. Has more bite than a pale lager. Tries to come on like a pale ale but never quite gets there. Some carbonation, just enough for a creamy sensation on the palate, could use more. On the finish the medium hop bite fades into something a little more gentleman-like. Perhaps a little better than I expected but after all, it is a lager.

Bottle, courtesy of Papsoe. Hazy, yellow pour with a nice, white head. Fruity, slightly dusty, peppery, citrusy nose with some spicyness. Oranges, some sweetness, pale malt and spicy notes in the flavor. Medium body. The finish is pleasant, with fruityness and a little fruit-like acidity. A pleasant, quenching, quaffable beer. Really enjoyable lager. (071005)

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of Degarth. Slightly hazy, pale golden with a lively, white head leaving some laces. Spicy, lightly citrusy nose. Medium body with a base of pale malts and dry citrus notes. Dry, lightly bitter finish. A rather quenching summer beer. 051007

35.5 cL bottle. Pours hazy yellow with a white head. Flowery and slight citric aroma. Softly carbonated. Fruity and floral flavour, slight spiced and wheat-like. Ends only minor bitter and maintains the same slight spiced and citric flavour into the finish. I really enjoyed the mellow floral flavours of this brew.

12 oz. loose bottle from at Sam’s Wines, Downers Grove, IL. The date notches say Sept 27, 06!? I hope their notcher is just off, I’d hate to think Sam’s isn’t diligent about old stock. Pours slightly hazy, dark yellow, as close to amber as it is to pilsener. Malty smell, and some papery oxidation, so it may be an old bottle, but not completely ruined. Decently creamy malt taste, though it was picking up the medicinal taste of old beer already. Hop notes threaded out. I haven’t cared much for Tommyknockers yet, but they seem to always be this close to real improvement.

Very weak citrus and hop aroma, barely detectable. Cloudy amber, inordinately thick head, nice lacing. Half the bottle ended up in the head. Weak lemon grass taste. Generic bitter finish, maybe lemon peel. Not much in the way of hops. I’d suggest a cautious pour, but I’m inclined to believe mine was just too old. I’d love to try a fresher bottle or draft. I really must pay closer attention to freshness dating.

Poured a murky, yellowish gold with little white head. Spciy, slightly malty aroma with a twinge of hops. Flavor is spicy, wheaty and a little off. Funny flavor finish, funny mouth feel. Not very appetizing.
