On cask at the Guildford Arms. Appearance - deep amber with a decent head. Some red chinks. Nose - gentle toffee and a hint of red fruits and nuts. Taste - mostly sweet toffee with a biscuit/nut thing lurking in the background. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall -solid.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. An attractive reddish amber pour with a thin cream head; grainy rye aroma; rich chewy grains in the mouth with a bittersweet taste; and a fresh tingling bitterness to finish. A pleasant beer.

Cask @ Moon Under Water, Manchester. Amber-red with a creamy head. Has a dry texture with a grain base and a very small sweetness that’s more pronounced in its nose.

Cask at Wetherspoons, Central Milton Keynes. Reddish brown with very little head. Sour, earthen smell. Taste is a grainy bittersweet sour with an astringent finish and aftertaste. Weak mouthfeel. No, just no. Disappointing on every level.

Earl of Essex. Cask. Clear deep amber beer, small bubbly pale cream colour head. Palate is light and fairly dry. modest carbonation. Has a dusty feel as many EoE casks do. Bitterish toffee malts, thin. Light apple tone and bitter floralness. Dry finish. Mmm not quite right but not terrible.

On tap Earl of Essex. Hazy russet. Not much condition earthy nut flavour. Not keen on this. Tastes harsh.
