Hvede I.P.A.

500 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 5.5%. Hazy deep golden colour, large white head. Sweetish wheaty aroma with strong notes of banana and cloves. The flavour is malty and wheaty with hints of caramel, banana, citrus and cloves, but also with a distinct presence of German and American hops. Fairly bitter finish and aftertaste, some grassy notes. Not bad.

0.5l bottle. This one pours a hazy golden orange body with a nice small beige head. The aroma reminds me much of a weiz with wheat, cloves, orange and nice yeast. Perhaps even a little hint of beef stock as well. Average to lively carbonation, medium-bodied and it has a mild oily to sticky mouthfeel. Flavors are a bit hoppier and somewhat more bitter than a normal weiz. Grassy hops mixed with the wheat actually works quite alright. Kinda orange marmelade-ish near the finish, and it has a mild and lasting bitter aftertaste.

bottle almost entirely clear, but a little hazy orange, large smooth but also a bit fluffy white to offwhite head. flowery, wheaty, bitterhoppy aroma, hops and alc. makes it bitter in a way i find a little bit too much (for a wheatbeer). it’s like the hoppy bitterness doesn’t work well with the wheat and yeast aroma. nice flavor, wheat, dry pils like flavor, bitterhops and some sweet flowery hops. Hops more flowery in the flavor than they were in the aroma, and it works better in the flavor. Still, it makes me think of an "english ipa wheat" which i don’t think i really fancy.

Sampled @ Copenhagen Beer Festival 2010. Dim amber body with a big white head. Aroma is fruity ester/banana with some spices. Flavor is citric fruity with wheat, yeast, banana and spices. Relatively light and not really hoppy, but very nice flavor. Sometimes wheat and hops is not the best combination, this one has a fine balance.
