The first Duvel Barrel Aged saw the light of day in 2017. A unique beer aged in wooden whisky barrels from renowned American bourbon distilleries. Six successful editions of Duvel Barrel Aged later, this time the Duvel brewers went to Ireland for oak whiskey barrels from the renowned Teeling distillery in the heart of Dublin. A distillery that shares Duvel’s passion for quality, craftsmanship and innovation.
By ageing the original Duvel in oak Irish Whiskey barrels, the speciality beer acquired smoky notes of oak and vanilla, and a beautiful copper colour.
Hedwig Neven, master brewer: "From exotic Barbados - where we got the rum casks for the latest Barrel Aged batch, it was off to Dublin, Ireland. We knocked on the door of a fantastic distillery with a good reputation and a long history. Not only did we meet passionate distillers there, but we also found the perfect casks at Teeling Whiskey to age our Duvel in. That is always exciting, because you really only have 'one shot' to get it right and you always have to wait and see how the flavour evolves. But I am very proud of the result and I hope my colleagues in Dublin are too."
Duvel Barrel Aged Irish Whiskey Edition will be available from the end of October 2022. And because the experience and the beer are so unique, the beer comes in a special gift box.
The design of this limited edition Duvel Barrel Aged also stands out. The 75 cl bottle was beautifully decorated, via a screen printing technique, with the distinctive clover symbol in a typical green Irish colour. Besides a very tasty beer, will this Shamrock deliver you an extra portion of good luck?
A beer that has aged to perfection deserves special treatment. Ideally, you should serve Duvel Barrel Aged Irish Whiskey Edition at a temperature between 8°C and 10°C.
The heavenly aroma is best appreciated in the specially designed glass that comes in the gift box. A wine glass, a tulip glass or a tumbler can, of course, also be used to enjoy a Duvel Barrel Aged.
Duvel Barrel Aged, the Irish Whiskey Edition, is a beer for connoisseurs, epicureans and Duvel lovers. It’s made to be enjoyed with friends and family. Perfect to serve at the end of a festive meal or next to a crackling fire this autumn.

Bottle to celebrate handing in my notice. It pours deeper than usual duvel... copper with a fluffy white head. The aroma is hearty bread, estery fruits, poached pear, crunchy melon, dried fruits, fruit cake, Irish Whiskey, bread & butter pudding, vanilla and marzipan. The taste is fairly crisp & dry upfront, has quite a bit of fruit character, ripe melon, poached pear, apple skin, peachy, nectarine, also dried fruits, fruit pudding, alcohol is there but better integrated than the regular version, Irish whiskey, raspberry Liquorice and some fruity tannins. Very nice depth. Interesting and very moreish. Really enjoyable stuff.

Opalescent bright amber colour, moderate sized creamy ecru-ish head; aroma and taste of pear (peel), peaty, vanilla, apricot, baked apple, citrusy and clove notes; great one!

0.75l bottle thanks to Lore. Opaque amber body with a white head. Aroma of peated malts, pears, nutmeg, vanilla, cloves and some burnt sugar. Taste of vanilla, nutmeg, oak, apples, cloves and burnt sugar. Awesome.

Monday 5th August 2024, the last Minutemat led Shrewsbury Beer Gathering, five guys, loads of beer and bollox. Cheers Mat for the 75cl bottle (Batch 7) of this fine brew. Almost Duvel gold and clear, but not fully bright, on top a full off-white blanket of foam. Nice blending of a good beer and a decent whiskey, semi-sweet with a boozy centre and pleasing soft whiskey aftertaste.

75cl bottle @ final tasting, Chez Sophie, Aug 24. Pours a generally clear deep gold, good off-white head. Inviting aroma presents a confident whisky influence encompassing vanilla and almond, alongside a Duvel sweetness. Wonderful harmonious whisky influence to taste.. nutty almond, lots of vanilla.. just exceptionally balanced. Very good.

Pours a clear, darker blonde to amber. Small white head. Scent is herbal, chewy, not as smooth as hoped. Taste is full, caramel, malts, sweet, burnt sugar. Not my thing at all.

Fles geprobeerd met Roelzie. Het is een helder goudgeel bier met een dun wit schuim. Het heeft een aroma van whisky en hout. De smaak is fruitig en whisky achtig.
Clear golden body small foamy white head. Floral woody whiskey aroma. Whiskey fruity candi flavor. Full body low carbonation. 8/4/8/4/16 4.0

Medium off-white head over clear amber beer, still. Caramel, prunes, whiskey, yellow plums. Jam, whiskey, caramel, bit of rubber/sulphur. Again (dried) yellow plums or peaches. Sweet but not sugary nor syrupy. Jam as from cloudberry. Liqueurish, and certainly warming up, grapes on brandy. Lots of alcoholwarming, -thinning to a rather thinnish body, not much carbonation. Excellent. Note to self: keep preferring (Irish) whisk(e)y to rum anytime. Big txs to the Assenede crew!
