A dark, rich and layered stout with a wonderful silky texture and a lingering finish. We use a complex mash including roasted barley and oats along with 3 types of malt to give the beer plenty of black coffee and dark chocolate notes that make this stout intense yet approachable.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 16B). Bottle 33 cl - Batch unknown (BBF unknown). AROMA: roasted aroma with notes of dark chocolate and roasted barley (almost burnt). faint vinous note. APPEARANCE: very dark brown body and almost opaque with slightly ruby highlights. medium light brown, creamy head with good retention. leg formation. TASTE: medium-high roasted malt flavour with initial notes of dark chocolate, black licorice, slightly fruity esters (dried grapes) and slight nuttiness. medium bitterness with a dry and a black coffee-like finish. PALATE: medium body with medium carbonation. OVERALL: a very interesting oatmeal stout with a touch more roasted character. Complex nonetheless.

Bottle at home. Opaque dark brown color, with a red glare coming through, full sized mocha head. Smell and taste malts, lightly an earthy touch, a tad sweet, lightly dusty malty bitter. Soft mouthfeel probably due to the oat flakes. Pretty decent. 7-4-7-4-14.

0.33 l bottle from 'Trinkgut Knödgen', bottled in September 2018. Clear, very dark brown to black with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty aroma of chocolate, coffee, hazelnut and some licorice. Quite sweet, malty, moderately bitter, gently roasty taste of chocolate, coffee, hazelnut, some vanilla and a touch of licorice, followed by a short, moderately bitter, gently roasty and slightly earthy-dry finish. Medium body, smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice Stout!

Fantastic beer. The oat and “scotch” type flavours all come through clearly, but are well balanced and not overly dominating as to be too extreme. D&S Dresden
