AleSmith is proud to release this long-awaited and intensely aromatic Russian Imperial Stout with Vietnamese coffee. We traditionally brew Vietnamese coffee, known as cà phê sữa đá, with a phin-style filter that gently percolates water through ground coffee. The result is a chocolaty and bold tasting coffee that perfectly complements the notes of oak, vanilla, and spice in this massive rye whiskey barrel-aged stout.

16 oz can (2025) shared. Dark brownish black cola color with tan head. Aroma and taste has dark chocolate, roasted coffee, light whiskey. Full body. Tasty barrel aged imperial stout, would like a bit more barrel character.

Can. Color: Black, brown head. Aroma: Coffee, Rye, roasted malt. Taste: Smooth, roasted malt, dark coffee, combined woth nice spicy notes of the Rye Whiskey. Boozy hints, but overall the alcohol is pretty well hidden. Lightly warming mouthfeel at the long lasting finish. Moderate to over moderate sweet and bitter. Over medium to full body, below average carbonation. One of the best versions of Speedway Stout, in my opinion.

2025 can from Tavour. Pours dark brown/black with a dark tan head that tried for a Guinness then frothed away with lacing. Aroma of chocolate and rye. Arguably full bodied. Not at all dry. Coffee bitterness seems to balance dark malt sugar. Flavor is dark malt, rye spice, chocolate and a lot more. Tasty stuff.

Aromas are dark malt, roast, molasses, coffee. Flavors are similar to nose. Loses most of the molasses and is just right sweet and perfectly balanced with bitter and soft carbonation. Really good.

10 November 2022. At Alesmith's Speedway Grand Prix, San Diego. Shared with the lovely Anke!

A: cloudy black, stable, foamy, dark beige head.
A: bourbon & green apple, pear, date, wet wood, vanilla.
T: sweet pear, green apple, spicy rye & coffee.
F: peppery hops, spicy rye, bitter wood & warming bourbon alcohol.
P: Full body, oily texture, average carbonation.
Intense, but too young after the bourbon treatment.

5 year old bottle (2017). Pours pitch black and a brownish head that quickly recedes to a small layer. Aroma's: boozy alcohol, whiskey, soy sauce, roasted, coffee, sweetish, dark fudge, dark chocolate. Retronasal it's boozy at first, then whiskey, chocolate, molasses, coffee, roast. Flavour is light moderate sweet and moderate roasty bitter, a bit alcoholic, dark chocolate. Medium bodied. Alcohol feel is quite moderate for its 13%ABV. Long finish with lots of roast, moderate bitter. I did like the bourbon BA version better, but to be fair, that bottle was a lot younger.

Finally. Bottle. Pours inky black, medium tan head, dissipates fairly quickly, decent lacing. Aroma is rich mocha, espresso. Hints of earth, whiskey, vanilla, oak. Flavor is medium sweet, light plus bitter, rich, creamy, yummy. Full body, soft mouthfeel. The thought that this was likely BETTER a couple years ago is scary.

75 cl bottle @ home. Thanks tiong! Vintage 2017 according to label. Aroma has alcohol, cocoa and toasted notes. Flavour has licorice, alcohol, liquor, rye bread and mild bourbon-like vanilla. Alcohol is a tad too dominant but then again the sweet rye malty tones are nice. Drinkability is not that high.
