The citrus punch of a big IPA, minus the one-dimensional hop sledgehammer. Select specialty malts round out the edges for a complex, copper-colored brew.

Draught pint at Redbones on 3/14/14
Clear golden-amber pour with a fluffy white head that is well-retained.
Acidic, piney hops in the nose contribute some dry fruitiness, more pine sap and mild citric notes. Some maltiness, though it’s somewhat bready/biscuity and dosent really help with the already overly dry, acidic hop notes. Clean, otherwise, at least. I’ve had some real aspirin bombs from Deschutes and this isnt one of them.
Plentiful bitterness easily overwhelms the palate. Citrus, pine, red fruits and some dry, biscuity, rather grainy malts. Light sweetness adds a touch of balance and I’ve certainly had more out-of-balance hop bombs, but I’m going to have to go ahead and disagree with their commercial description. Seems exactly like a one-dimensional hop sledgehammer. Moderate carbonation, decent enough mouthfeel. I guess it’s still aimed at the person who just likes a mouthful of hop bitterness....Yawn.

Poured from a 355ml bottle. One-finger sized, beige head leaving fragile lacing behind. Copper coloured body, slightly cloudy. Aroma is very fresh with apricot, mango, and peach. Balanced taste character of semi-dry tropical fruits and caramel malts followed by a nice bittersweet ending. Soft carbonated. Smooth in the mouth. Fine bodied. Pleasing (kindly shared by djoeye, Tromsø 27.02.2014).

A lightly hazed amber ipa with a thick frothy mocha head. In aroma, nice biscuit malt with smooth piney floral hops, grapefruit pulp, very nice. In mouth, a nice biscuit malt with floral hops, grapefruit pulp, citrusy goodness. On tap at Yard House Honolulu.

Bottle. Clear copper with a large off-white head. Toffee aroma with grapefruit marmalade, pine, earth, grapes. Rather sweet with lots of caramel and some dark grapes, pine and pepper come through but not so much citrus. Moderate bitterness, quite peppery at the end.

Location: Draft at Hay Merchant, 2/10/14
Aroma: The nose is a mix of citrus and pine hops and caramel malts
Appearance: Bright red pour, clear, large, frothy beige head that lasts and leaves tons of lace
Flavor: It has a nice, balanced, leaning hoppy flavor, light sweet and medium bitter
Palate: The feel is very clean and drinkable, soft carbonation, smooth, light dry finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty enjoyable example of the style. It drinks nicely and has a pretty sessionable feel to it even though the ABV is a touch too high to qualify.

Nice orange/amber brew with small tight head. Lots of fine carbonation keep the head intact. Light aroma of malt, some hop notes come through. Hops are slightly stronger in the taste, but it’s mostly a malt party here. Smooth and drinkable.
