Barley Wine dates back to before the Napoleonic Wars. Back then, it was considered unpatriotic to drink French wine, the British were forced to find an alternative. The high alcohol content and bitterness combined with caramel, dried fruits and oak give Midtfyns Barley Wine a very well-balanced and unique taste.
Our Barley Wine is the perfect dessert beer and goes well with mild and creamy cheese. It also compliments rich dishes, such as like osso buco and roast pork. Midtfyns Barley Wine can also be used as a marinade to create a fantastic flavored dish to remember!

Clear caramel colour, white head. Aroma of caramel, wine, raisins, malts, wood and alcohol. Caramel flavour, quite sweet, raisins, some madeira notes, feels aged. Finish caramel and raisins. Nice!

50cl bottle form Bierzwerg pours with a crystal clear copper body that supports a thin light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up lots of sweetness coming from notes like caramel, white chocolate, sugary toffee, blue wacky taffy and a bit of nuttiness. Intriguing, I get very little if any dark fruity esters. The taste is a big hit of sweetness that’s a lot like the nose where caramel, white chocolate, toffee, wacky taffy and then it slides into a light degree of brown sugar coated prunes and figs. Interesting stuff but it seems the esteriness could be a bit more forward to add more balance.

Bottle: Poured a deep hazy brown color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of toffee and caramelized sugar notes is quite intense though doesn’t fall into gross territory. Taste is also dominated by very nice toffee and caramelized sugar notes with limited amount of piney hops. Body is full with god carbonation and no apparent alcohol notes. I really enjoyed this beer since it veered closer to English-style barley wine with well balanced flavours.

Bottle. Pours amber, with a small creamy head. Aroma is sweet with roasted malts, as well as grain, oak, toffee and a whiff of alcohol. Flavour is sweet and quite smoky, with coffee, chocolate, molasses as well as toffee and alcohol giving a sweetness sticking through the finish.

Solid øl. Søtt, disig, litt flatt, alkoholisk, tørket frukt - en barley wine m.a.o. Litt for søt for min smak, men det ligger vel i typen.
