A nut brown beer with a huge orange-brown head. The aroma is sweet bready combined with light notes of brown sugar. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, malt, and bread, leading to a subdued end where the caramel lingers for a long time.

Bottle from Engelsmann, best before July 24th, 2006 shared with SuIIy on 6/8/06. Clear mahogany, with layers of mesquite caramel and brown. A strong reddish undertone as well, when held to the light. Head is small, off-white and shows medium-poor retention, fading to a large ring and leaving little to no lacing. Very high clarity, no sediment on bottom. The nose is sticky caramel. Heavily sweet (not badly so), with light melanoidins producing vinousness and touches of anise. Very expressive, despite the best attempts of the sticky, fat choco-caramel. American hops are definitely felt by the very crisp ending (though by no means is it over-hopped, not even close). Watery, light, but not unflavorful, the molasses and sticky toffee dance together briefly before leaving way to light toast, raisins, playful dark fruits and a dry, hopped (mainly bitterness) finish. Hops are wonderfully done. Gentle, just enough to add bitterness and very minimal flavors, they are just an afterthought. Not trying to say, "Hey, look at us, we’re novel!", just interesting and clever. Ok, moving on (can you tell I like when brewers don’t overdo American hops?). Light yeast dryness, more toast and a fade to brown sugar, flecked with white pepper (not sure how that flavor arises). Loose, but still enough yeast and hop spiciness/crispness to keep things satisfying. And who said this had to be a true dunkel? No alcohol noted, lingering sweetness. Warming and breathing allow to much breadiness to assert itself in the nose and finish, so it’s best drunk chilled.

Draught: Weak malty aroma. Clear, very dark brown colour. Very small head. Malty flavour with OK creamy hoppiness. The aftertaste, however, is watery and disappointing. 5 3 5 3 12 Bottle: Sweet fruity aroma, a bit of raisin. Almost clear dark red/chestnut colour. Fruity flavour, a bit roasted. Coffee-like roasted aftertaste. A bit fruity for a lager, but interesting. 7 3 6 3 13

Clean dark amber color. Aroma of salame, then roasted malt and a very light smokeyness. Medium body thickness, malty, with a residual sweetness, with light roasted malt more evident at the end. Strong bitterness.

Bottle. Creamy fair mostly deminishing head. Brown colour. Not very pleasent aroma, but some good chocolate/caramel notes. It tastes too much of chocolate though. Not a good beer. Avoid.
