Named after the year Peter Walker patented the Burton Union system, 1838 is brewed exclusively on this historic set at Thornbridge. This premium pale ale showcases the finest ingredients, blending Maris Otter malt with Savinjski Goldings hops to create a full-bodied beer with a light amber hue. Expect rich, biscuity malt flavours, balanced by floral hop notes and a crisp, refreshing finish.

Bottle from The Thornbridge online store. Aromas of grapefruit, peach, mango. Bitter malty taste, splosh of grapefruit, pithy orange, underripe mango. Quite a mouth coating bitterness. Good.

Cask gravity at K&ES railway BF 2025. Clear gold colour lasting white head. Citrus aroma. Decent bitter. Some malt sweetness. Some dryness on the finish. Some light citrus flavour. Some white pepper. OK
Decent condition. Very drinkable. Yes. Decent.

A light coppery colour, a head is medium and blond. Aroma has biscuity malts, flowers, light citrus. Taste has balanced and biscuity maltyness, some flowers and citrus, nicely dry, so there are bitterness. Medium bodied. Nice and balanced, very enjoyable.

Bottle. Mitchell’s Wines. Faint haze on an orange gold. Thin white froth. Satsuma hops on top of lightly spicy grain. Well balanced bitter hop and semi sweet grain. Easy drinking tasty pale with a pleasantly bitter kick. Bet this is a blinder on cask, too.

Bottle from the brewery Beer Club. Pours clear golden with a thin white head. Aromas of light biscuit and faint herbs. Taste has citrus and minerality. Dry up front, but with a light sweet finish at the end.

Handpull cask at the Plough & Harrow, Cradley Heath. Mid-gold and clear with a large tight white head. Very little aroma, some grassy character and fresh citrus if you really try. Taste is a vast improvement. Some light sweetness followed by a lip-smacking sour bitterness with almost a hint of fruity tart. Sourdough, kumquat peel. Medium body with soft carbonation. Didn't think I would like this as much as I do.

Cask at The Newcastle Tap, Newcastle upon Tyne. A golden coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Hoppy, citrus, malty, grassy aroma & taste. An easy drinking pale ale.

Rocky white head on a finely carbonated unclear golden coloured body.
Light malt & faint stone fruit aroma.
Medium bodied, smooth with a sharp dry back.
Very delicate tastes all round of citrus, floral, pale malts & biscuit.
Very well balanced - Nice.
