Bomber. Poured malty dark brown with thick white head. Much lacing in rings. Aroma of malt and caramel. Full malty flavour with some more caramel. Some hop in the finish.

06’ courtesy of gillard. Pours hazy orange. Aroma, malty and candi sugar, light caramel. Taste, malty and roasted with caramel, and as in aroma some candi sugar. Thick well balanced.

2007 Bottle. Pours a murky plum color with a large off-white head that leaves good lacing. Gorgeous hued beer. Aroma of dark fruits, honey, flowery. Taste is sweet, and bozzy, with dark fruits and brandy. Nothing special. Mouthfeel is syrupy, with light carbonation. English Style, malty barelywine....I like the West Coast Style Stuff Better...

2007 22 oz. bottle from the most generous stefanje. Thank you Stefan! Clear dark red color with a sizeable head and good lacing. Prickly pine hops are assertive int he aroma with notes of brown sugar, cream, citrus. Taste is very strong and very dry hops, lemon, other citrus and pine. Some subtle fruitiness supports the hoppiness. Nice creamy texture and taste througout. Normally I like a nice maltiness to balance the hops, which this one lacks, but for some reason it works very well.

22 oz bottle courtesy of bvc. This was the 2007 Vintage. Pour is mostly clear brown ruby with a 2 inch off white head. Lacing thick on the side of the glass. Aroma of full malty caramel sweetness. Some salty earthiness and alcohol heat in the back of the nose. Bitter hoppiness still present in the nose - piney, grassy. Taste is grassy pine hops and briney caramel maltiness. Residual alcohol heat is present in the after taste but doesn’t really detract from the flavor. Pretty dry, taste wasn’t really all there, as compared to the nose. Palate is serious enough to hold up all of the diverse flavors. Thanks for sending this one my way, Brandon.

But the flavour for me is not a barley wine ... little sweet ... lots of hops very bitter ... nearly undrinkable ... appreciate getting to try it but oh no... no balance...

Draft (2007): Golden pour with a large, creamy sand colored head. Tons of thick lacing coat the entire glass. Aroma is citrus and hoppy. Light caramel maltiness. Flavor is a little green in that the hops are bright and dominant. Just a light hint of malts. Still a nice amount of caramel and dark fruit. Good, but has lots of potential to mellow. I’ve heard these age well and will need to rerate after raiding the cellar in a year or two...

2006 vintage bomber pours out crystal clear copper with lasting pillowy off white head and copious lacing. I love it when barleywines come in bombers. The aroma is a bit light and tough to pin down. I get vague dark fruitiness along with a biscuit to hay like maltiness and vague sweetness. The taste starts off sweet, malty melonodin and biscuit malt. There’s also dark fruitiness mixed with hard candy cherries and oranges. Body seems thin.

Bottle courtesy of CBA: Poured a deep orangey color ale with a medium foamy head with average retention but great lacing. Aroma of sweet malt is balance with some citrusy hops. Taste is a mix between some sweet malt that are somewhat lacking in dry fruits characteristics and some citrusy west coast hops. I usually prefer barley wine to be more of the English style and less dominated by hops and more dry figs characteristics would have been preferable. Body was quite full with some great carbonation and no alcohol was discernable.

2nd rating on 08 bomber. 01/22/2014. Pours very hazy orange/amber with a beige smear. Aroma of light stone fruits - but a mix of over and under ripe. Nice, but strange. Med body. Flavor is malty, but the hop seems fairly oxidized. Fruity, but strange. I’d say this shouldn’t age more than 3 or 4 years - unless you like oxidation. It probably is really oxidation, but seems like it, and I don’t know what else to call it. 06 bomber. Warm aroma of ripe fruits. Translucent ruby amber color with a persistent beige head. Starts with fruit and hop. There is some sweetness, but the hop clearly dominates. Maybe some raisin hints. A bit rough, but great to drink. Initial Rating Date: 4/3/2007
