A richly textured and roasty stout with a boost of bitter and charismatic flavor from the addition of fine dutch cocoa in the mash.

Big difference between the 6.1% abv posted and the 5% actually in my bottle. The most striking aspect of Buffalo Choco Stout is its thinness-- the watery texture kills what otherwise could be a sippable, if bland, pint. Seriously. This brew has one of the biggest discrepancies I’ve discovered between nice roasty stout flavors and piss-poor mouthfeel. The chocolate abounds on the nose and in the flavor, but, to beat that poor dead horse, it doesn’t matter with a body that’s near-nonexistent. Add some oats, dudes.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a huge brown head. The aroma has notes of sweet and roasted malt as well as notes of chocolate. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt and chocolate, leading to a dry and roasted finish, where the chocolate and cocoa notes lingers.

12 oz. bottle. Pours pitch black with an ample tan head that dissipates quickly and leaves no lacing. The aroma is almost exclusively bitter chocolate. It tastes like bitter dark chocolate, and nothing else. This beer is thin and one-dimensional. It delivers on the chocolate, but has nothing else.

11th October 2008. GABF.
Very dark brown clear beer. A bit unfair tasting this after ’Legend of the Liquid Brain’. Toasty malt, no real chocolate. Dry palate. Original rating 2.7

At Papsoe’s pre CPH Beer Fest tasting, cheers Henrik! Opaque black beer, bubbly tan head. Soft bubbly palate. Rich malt, chocolatey malt with a subtle orange - grapefruit undertone.

Bottle. Short, frothy, brown head, slowly diminishing. Black body. Nice aroma of roasted grain, cocoa powder, chocolate, grapefruit and coffee. The flavor is lightly sweet, lightly bitter and moderately acidic. It finishes lightly sweet, moderately bitter. Tastes of bitter coffee, roasted malts. Some initial tastes of chocolate, but that is quickly overtaken by bitterness and roast. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Nice.

Black color, medium head, beige colored. There is roasted malt aroma, ashes; luckily some alcohol too, that in this case fits well for the balance; light smoke and soy sauce, if possible. Medium strength and body, with a dryish chocolate flavor, burnt malts, light liquorice. The final is dominated by the chocolate, not bad but not exciting either.
