Pale in colour with prominent hoppy palate and full flavoured finish, Golden Newt is a pale session bitter of 4.1% ABV.

The beer has a prominent hop character; a blend of Fuggles, Goldings and Cascade has been used in the recipe to bring the delicate hop flavour and aroma to the fore. The use of Cascade gives a pleasing citrus aroma.

Finest pale Maris Otter malt has been blended with wheat malt and rye crystal to provide a full flavoured beer. The lavish use of late hop dominates the malt flavour and results in a satisfying pint.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] A bright amber pour with a tight cream head; citrusy aroma; smooth in the mouth with a grainy body and citrus taste; then a sharp pithy grapefruit bitterness; and a lingering bitter finish. Refreshing and satisfying.

(Cask at Captain Corvus, 20160903) The beer poured golden and almost clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had sweetness, earth and butter. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, earth, grass, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy and bitter. A poor pale ale. Bad cask?

Cask @ Burnaby Arms, Bedford. Mid to dark gold. Aroma is malty with hints of citrus fruit hop, like a proper lager. Taste is... wow. Bittersweet, flavourful and rich from start to finish.

Cask at the Seven Stars, Rugby, 06/03/13. Clear pale golden with a decent sized white cap. Nose is pale malts, grass, light citrus - pretty thin. Taste comprises pale malt, lemon, citrus, light summer fruit, vegetal notes. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, some bitterness in the finish. Look and feel drags this one up a few notches - very average, not one to revisit for me!
